Question 9 or 9.5" wide wheels on Evo?

Hey guys,

You'll have to excuse me if this has been discussed before, but if you look at my profile you'll see that I'm a n00b. I was just browsing through my Evo Hyper Rev and I couldn't help but notice that almost all the tuners in there use 9-9.5" wide wheels on their Evo 7 and 8s. I was just wondering if it was common to do this amongst US Evo owners and if it would require fender rolling if the car is lowered. I assume people would run 255/265 tires on a 9-9.5" wide wheel.. Again, sorry if this has been discussed, please bare with my n00bness.

TIA,

Chris

I have seen EVO's with 9" rims running 275/40/17 (hoosiers) with minimal fender rolling in the rear. with the right offset it's a real nice fit

I have also seen individuals stuff a 285/30/18 (Michelin sport cups) under the wheel wells. It rubs (the fenders are slowly getting flared), but this car is a autox trailer queen so regular street driving is not an issue.

I am assuming that the 18's are a minimum of a 9.5" rim width, the 275's were definately on 9" rims.

For the street, I plan on running no larger than a 255.

So I guess my real question is: Is it possible for a street car to run a 9.5" wide wheel without having to roll the fenders?

Sure you can run a 9.5 wide wheels, just get the right offset and don't expect to fit on huge tires without fender mods.

The widest tire I'd run is probably a 245/40 because it seems that they can fit fine...

I have no idea how you'd fit 275's. Maybe on the rear but no way on the front. I run 255's on 9 wides (35mm) and it rubs like crazy on the inside on a full lock to lock turn. I guess if you wanna put up with rubbing but i can only imagine how bad 275's would rub.
