Looking at possible alternatives. Any feedback on what other packages are out there that will offer similar performance to the Vishnu Ohlins setup??
Seeing as how you are from down under, I would check out DMS.

I have run the DMS 50's on my old WRX and loved them. You might be able to get them close to your cost on the ohlins + import, shipping, and import taxes to AU.

just a thought..

Thanks for the suggestion. While our pricing locally is a bit cheaper than yours on the DMS, they are still expensive in coparison to items I can source from the US!! I will look into the KW variant 3's.

No I haven't looked closely at them but the feeling I got was that theye weren't a serious street/track coilover unit but more of a budget priced street unit mainly useful for achieving a low look and adjustable height but not able to offer serious track performance.

While I need liveable street performance, my bias is towards something that will function at the track with well matched valving and spring rates with a suitable level of adjustment. Happy to spend about 3K AUD to achieve this.

The DMS 50's would be nice, but they will run out at about $4500 AUD

ok, fair enough.. but you also need to consider what to do when you need to service them. It will be far easier for you to get local service on the DMS than other system that you can import from the US or japan.

FWIW, that price on the DMS is what you will pay for a set of ohlins (with top hats) at the current exchange rates... Add shipping, and the DMS 50's are propably a bit cheaper.

$1 us = $1.40AUD

I think the hotbits warrant a closer look. one issue with adjustable shocks is the adjustments have no relationship with the direction of knob turning. the hotbits (from what I have heard) are very good in this regard. The shock tuner I spoke with was very positive about the hotbits over name brands costing 2x as much. thus, look a little closer before you toss them out with the bathwater.

I am not bashing hotbits, but that makes no sense

I don't have any experience with suspensions, am only trying to express something I don't really have a grip on.
What I was trying to get across was that many adjustable shocks "adjustments" don't have a logical correlation with positions. ie, the range from hard to soft may in fact run from medium, hard and then soft, or some such. Making in the field adjustments a hit or miss problem.
to me that issue alone is a non starter

Hey guys, I would recommend the 40mm with something like our KST 400 spring front and rear. Would be very subtle on the street, but would hook up like a champ on the track. Easier to adjust then the 50mm, cheaper to purchase, and still user servicable.

no, and I know that there isn't a comparison between them and the upmarket DMS's and Ohlins, just wondering why they didn't even get mentioned since this guy isn't building a track monster.

Sorry to rub it in, but here are my customized Vishnu/Chronohunter struts almost ready to go back in the car:

I'm still waiting on a couple of bushing and my upper pillow ball mounts.
