If you have installed GC topmount camber plates on your Evo, can you confirm whether they require grinding of the strut tower (or any other modification to the car itself) in order to fit them?
Specifically I am looking at these for use with Ohlins coilovers (not sure if that makes a difference).
I searched previous threads and couldn't definitively determine the answer. If you have any images too, that would be helpful-- GC doesn't list this product on their site.
Thanks gents

Ohlins makes topmount camber plates? I was only aware of the GCs.

I spoke with GC last week. They told me no modifications to the strut tower were necessary.

I didn't install my GC plates on top, but like you would the stock struts. I have Ohlins Road and track coilovers.Originally Posted by JKav

very important
When you get the GC plates, you need to tell GC which coilovers you have so you get the correct install kit.
I can post pictures later tonight.
Here is what the plates look like
The bottom portion of the GC plates (the disk in the lower right) replaces the upper spring perch and contains a bearing assembly allowing the strut to turn without affecting the insert.
I have the Ohlins R/Ts; they came with Works camberplates (from what I've read, these are Tein plates) which mount on the underside of the strut tower. I am looking for more front travel, and it looks like a topmount camberplate like the GC will net another inch or so, maybe more.
When I spoke to GC they said they'd need all the dimensions of the Ohlins to adapt to it--as if they'd never done it before--which I found odd since a few forum members are using the two together already.
chrisw, whats the reasoning behind mounting your plates on the underside?

that's the way they fit. These camber plates are similar in design to the tein/works/JIC plates and I saw no reason to mount them on top. Originally Posted by JKav

As for the fitment on the Ohlins, tell them you need the tappered top hats and updated shims. I know they have the kit, I had to special order it after someone else had shipped the front coilovers to them for fitment.
Newbie
I have a friend that is a technician for Ohlins USA in Hendersonville, NC. According to him Ohlins does make top mount camber plates for the evo and their coilovers. This might make your install alot easier. If you do get a shim kit for your shocks send them in to Ohlins. If you need more info the # there is 828-692-4525. Ask for Nate. Hope this helps you out.
I'm already committed to GC plates at this point (they're on their way) but those Ohlins topmounts might be worthwhile for someone else to check into. Thanks for the tip.

If you dont mind, could you take a few pix of the plates installed on the car?
Thanks!
