hks hypermax 2 rebuild

i have the hipermax 2 coilovers for about a year now. didn't drive much but where i live has a bunch of holes, bumps and uneven grounds. to make the story short both my front struts are making noise already ! does that mean i have to get them rebuild? if so does anyone know where that rebuilds these? i asked hks already and said that they don't warrenty racing suspension so their out of the picture. i tried searching the weba dn locally but no luck. any help ismuch appreciated

i bought these from group5 motorsports. albert at grooup 5 said that they can only warrenty it through hks but hks does not warrenty the hipermax2 only on street coilovers like hipermax rs and regular street use coilovers.

what kind of noises? they might not be blown... rebuilding and warrantying are totally dfferent things... you pay for rebuilds and you don't pay for warranties.

Excellent point. You might want to call them and ask about wether they offer a rebuild service. I know for a fact they have someone there trained in Japan on how to re-valve/rebuild thier suspension systems (same guy who selected the valivng for the RS kits we get here). I know I used to work there once upon a time . The question is whether they only use him for R&D and warranty repairs or they offer rebuilds as a service (I don't know). I would think though that it would have to go back through the dealer it was purchased from.

Hey this is my first post.....I'll have to go to the newb forum and intro myself later.

Good Luck.

these types of noise are like clunking noise and only hear it at low speeds when i go over bumps and drive ways. you rarely hear it on the freeway and it only happens about 20mph and down. i called hks and one of the rep (girl) said that they don't have anyone right now working there that is experienced in re-valving. if so they said it has to be sent out to japan which would take months to get back. they said for each to be re-valved it would cost about $150. my car would be m.i.a for about four months and thats a bumber.

To determine if it is blown it would have to be inspected, but if it makes you feel any better the only time I blew a damper it sounded a lot like your situation. I would only hear a clunking sound in/out of drive ways or minor bumps you wouldn't think would make a noise on surface streets.

Now to clarify, if you were asking the sales rep girl about re-valving then you created a miscommunication and you were not asking for the right thing. That means you want them to change the valve to soften or stiffen the full range of adjustment. What you should have asked for was an "overhaul" or rebuild.

I felt bad for you so I called LOL. So the deal is, they can rebuild it for you so that's good. What you would have to do is get an RA# (return authorization #) from the dealer you got it from. Down side is it's probably going to cost like you said about $150 per corner (thats' not counting shipping or any handling a dealer might charge you). If it just needs an overhaul (seals, oil, gas ect) then that's it. If they inspect it and you broke some stuff then they have to order replacement parts from Japan. Like you said that could take 4-6 weeks unless they are small and you can EMS-express mail service them for cheap (the cheapest air shipping from Japan). If you only have 1 bad damper it might be worth it but you'll have to decide. Anyway that's what I got from the conversation, you will have to do the rest of the leg work from there. I hope that was some help to you.
Good luck again.

there could be other things that make your susp. clunk, and easy way to check to see if it's leaking is to check the strut body/piston for grease/dirt, you may have to lift up the dust boot first. anyway, good luck w/ your situation.

Good advice also, but you won't see that if only the gas got out.
