Need help with brakes....BIGTIME

well i've got about 18k miles on my 06 IX MR, and the brakes are gone. The dealerships want right around 800 bucks to do the front and rear. The OEM pads are close to 300 bucks a set for the front, and another 300 for the rear. Just wondering what all of you did when it was time to change your brakes. anybody out there running aftermarket pads? are there any that are better, and cheaper than the OEMs? I'm just looking for a set of pads front and rear, and i'll either install them myself, or find somebody to do it cheaper. Anybody know a good set of pads for the EVO? please help if you've got any advice. thanks

What is the intended use? Street, autox, track, or some combination of those?

Here is a good link with descriptions of many available brake pads...

Hawk HPS pads are what many use as well as myself. There are some other good cheap alternatives as well, just give a quick vendor search a try. Hit me with a PM, I can probably find you a good deal. Save yourself some money, changing them yourself is very easy. Make sure when you bleed the calipers that you thoroughly clean off the fluid as soon as it gets on there or it will peel the paint.

Haven't you noticed all the threads about brake pads on this forum? This thread should be deleted.

Yead, you don't even need to pull the calipers to do the brakes, it's super-easy. Definitely do it yourself unless you are a mechanical moron.

The stock pads are overpriced rubbish.

Hawk HPS is a very good stock replacement pad, and the price is right. IF your looking for more of a noticeable upgrade, Ferodo DS2500 are very popular. Pagid's if you're looking for something more track worthy.

But it sounds like you would be happy with either the Hawk HPS or Ferodo pads.

You can't really go wrong with the Hawk HPS pads. Satisfied Pads are not too shabby either.

i am running stoptech rotors f/r, ferrodo fp2500 pads f/r, stoptech braided lines f/r, super blue brake fluid...whole setup costs about 1k...I haven't had a great oppurtunity to time attack them yet and when I do i am thinking that they be a little small...but for street/track use that setup should work fine.

well i got the Hawk HPS pads installed today, and they feel great. no squeaking or any noises like that dude in that other thread was crying about. i broke'em in properly, and they are fine. got'em for only 180 shipped next day air for the set, so i'm not complaining. compared to 800 for a stock brake job haha
