reverse/braking issue

friend of mine with an 03 evo who is not on the board has a question so I thought I'd post for him. when he goes in reverse and then puts it in first and moves forward then hits the brake there is a slight crack or knock sound as he hits the brakes. its not really loud I've heard it but its noticable if you turn the radio off and what not. any ideas?

I was thinking maybe it would be maybe a tranny/differential problem. It only happens when he goes directly from reverse to 1st and then brakes for the first time after that. I dont know how to really describe the sound other than a loud click or a soft crack I know not the greatest but the main thing is the going from reverse to 1st being when it happens

What pads is he running? I switched the stock pads out for Hawk HPS and started to hear this noise as well. I researched here on EvoM and it turns out that the Hawk pads are slightly smaller in size than the OEM pads. Therefor, when I reverse or drive forward and the pads drag slightly they slide up or down a little bit in the caliper and click when they touch the sides.

I'd be willing to bet this is the noise he's got. I've read about others on the forum that have had this issue. It doesn't really cause any problems and is more of an annoyance than anything else.

agreed then thanks guys for the reassurance! cuz it only started happening after i put the hawk pads on too weird you would think they'd be the same size within a mm or 2 maybe they are and that still makes the difference thanks again!
