Transfercase click or knock
Transfercase click or knock
I've noticed that when I switch my car from 1st to reverse, or reverse to 1st, drive about 5mph (reverse or forward), and hit the brake on the harder side, I hear and a click or knock that I can also feel in the brake pedal. BUT...It'll only do it ONE time after you've engaged that gear, but it'll do it every time. After that it's fine, no whining or grinding. Anyone else experience this? Are the gears in the transfer case on their way out? We put the car on a lift and moved the wheels to listen to the transecase. Does this sound normal? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UDS4yhKYM_o

Lol no. This is kind of serious to me. I need to know If I have to get this T/C rebuilt before I get a death whine. I don't know if what I'm hearing is usual or not. I guess what I meant was a T/C expert.
I just think that I have a hard time believing that my T/C is going on a car that's been bone stock all it's life. Just rolled 64k miles, bought it at 54k last june, bone stock car. Only mod that's been on the car for the last 1500 miles is exhaust. Car was so well taken car of when I got it, I would believe that it was never launched. Even I have never launched it. The car still had the factory stickers on the inside drivers door panel for the ACD system when I got it.
I think what you are hearing is coming from the brakes. Some of the pad makers after market backing plates are a little short and make a noise when you change directions and hit the brakes. The noise coming from the t-case sounds a little loud but otherwise normal to me.
