Hubcentric Ring

Okay I searched with the exact thread title I am posting. Because those words should produce my answer in my opinion. I think will help feature searchers with questions.

I am looking into purchasing 5zigen wheels. They say you need a hubcentric ring. Where does this ring sit? And what exactly does it do?

I was told briefly it centers the wheel on the hub. But where does it sit I can't exactly envision it. Any pictures would be appreciated.

Thank you.

its a metal ring designed specifically to the wheel your buying that centers it up against the hub, just a simple and effective way of making sure your wheels are center. and it really helps if people dont know how to properly torque down a wheel. ( torque in criss cross pattern) to install just simply plop the ring on the hub and install the wheel. Goodluck and post pics of the wheels!!

I just bought 5zigen wheels and got hub rings for 18 bucks from discount tire direct. Do a search on Ebay to get the # and then call and order them.

My big bro has them on his NSX with volks. I was under the impression that the hole in the center of the rim is bigger than the hub. So they have rings with different thicknesses for proper fitment. There should be a size guide. The one bad thing is that once its on you have to break it to put on a spare. Correct me if im wrong

The hub centric ring helps keep the wheel centered on the hub while you bolt it down to the car. If it wasn't there the wheel would sag and be bolted down crooked. Basically changes the center bore of the wheel, smaller not larger.

Why not make every wheel hub centric? If they did your wheels would cost thousands each because they would have to make a mold for every single application. Instead, they make lets say 50 molds/applications. Those 50 applications can then work on hundreds of different vehicles by using a different centering ring. The ring has to be tailored to the wheel and vehicle its designed for. Can't always take the rings from one wheel and have them work in another. The pic below is of a BBS centering ring.

You don't have to break it unless it get stuck on the hub. I heard plastic ones can melt under extreme conditions and metal ones can 'weld' themselves on a hub. I got the mteal ones and plan on keeping a little anti-seize on them.

Guys just consider it as a recessed washer so your wheel fits on the hub

I have a snap-on torque wrench and I know how to use it. Some people never have a problem NOT running hubrings, my take is for 18 bucks why just use them. It doesn't hurt to have them.
