Is this normal??? pics!

So I was installing ss brake lines and I noticed on both rear upper arm ball joint dust cover had a "glob" of grease outside the seam. Both dust covers have no cracks or anything. If I squeeze a small amount of grease comes out the lower seam. I wiped away about a "peanut M&M" size of grease before the pics which I regret but you can still see what I am refering to. Is this normal? Is it possible they can become "unsealed?" Like I said It is the same on BOTH sides. Please help!!!! Thanks

Yes, the grease inside is for lubrication. It's not really a problem. It will start make noise but I doubt that it will happen. The pic shows that it still has decent amount of grease left inside. I am wondering if your car is lowered. Other wise, it's hard to imagine how it was unsealed... I would take it to a dealer for warranty if it was stock suspension......

I forgot to add that yes it is lowered 1" for over 1.5 years. Do you mean that it will make noise because it is leaking and will eventually loose all the grease?

Yes, that is what I ment. If you keep your evo until you hear a noise from that ball joint, you will have so much money to pay your next car in cash.... Don't worry about it!

Anyone else notice this or have any input? Do urethane bushings replace the dust cover w/ grease all together?

Thats completly normal, don't worry about it. When the ball joint is installed the boot is pumped full of grease. Over time some will squeeze out through the bottom of the boot. here is still a good amount of grease left in the boot to lube the ball joint. You don't need to worry about it unless it is making noise, loose, or the boot is tore open.

No urethane bushings do not replace any part of the ball joint, including the boot.

Thanks for the responces! I was under the impression that the boots were sealed and therfore if grease was comming out that ment water or dirt could get in.
So am i correct in saying the dust boots are not sealed tight enough to prevent zero grease leakage?

I would but removing a ball joint is a hard job from what I hear. I have no problems paying the dealer, I am just trying to gauge the severity of the whole thing and trying to see if other people are experiencing the same thing. I am relatively mechanically inclined and do most of my own maintence and mods. But correct me if I am wrong but replacing it (out of warranty) is a big job and the stealership is well you know $$$$$$$$.

I have the same issue on a lowered evo on both sides on the rear upper control arms. No noise yet, not particularly worried about it.

Edit: As for replacement of that arm your looking at 5 bolts. Very simple, highest cost will be for the arm, and an alignment would be a good idea too.
