new tires for racing

hey there.
I'm looking to take my car out on a local track for some Pay Per Lap fun. a buddy told me that at sema last year bfg was talking about releasing a new R1. Anyone hear anything about this? if so, i may hold off on buying something.

thanks

if you want a good tire for track use, get some ra1's they are the best at track days, they dont have a lot of treadlife on them though so make sure you have another set of wheels with street tires on them if you go this way. think of it this way, all of the speed world challenge cars use ra1's they are the best for track days.

As always, the questions are: how fast do you want to be; how much are you willing to spend?

Ditto's on the RA-1 (shaved), nice balance between grip and longevity for an r-compound, but if you aren't thrilled about carrying extra tires and wheels, the Falken RT-615 is a soft street tire that provides a good compromise. However, the RT-615 has large treadblocks and is not a good rain tire.

+1

RT-615 has gotten great reviews on the site. Great price. Just get a larger tread width (245)

I recently picked up a set of used RA-1's and they are the dog's bollocks on the track. Do ensure you have a separate set of wheels to mount them, though, because mounting and unmounting tires around track days will really add up quickly.

+1 for the RA-1

On my 2nd set ... love them.

I'd recommend the 255/40/17 on a decent 17x9 wheel and you're all set.
