Winter Package for Evo IX

Neal, it appears that the cheapest wheels for the Evo IX are $239... are there any less expensive options for winter available?

Thanks!

Let me just take a minute to say don't skimp...

I skimped on a winter setup on my STi and it came to an upside-down end. I figured $690 shipped for a set of winter rims was pretty good. If I had bought quaility rims (not Rota's) I'd never had a problem.

Just think twice about putting cheap stuff on a 35k car ya know! Tirerack themselves sell some nice rims in the $1200-1400 range.

Just my .02 - I'll get off the soapbox.

The Kosei is a really nice wheel actually. Quite light and strong for the price.

How was it the wheels that were the issue and not the driver or the tires?
I bought a set of cheap mille miglia HT3 wheels on tirerack (back when they were in stock) and put snowtires on them and never had an issue on my O3 evo.

How did wheels flip your car in winter driving? I'm not following.....

Honestly curious, not trying to flame you .

I just picked up a set of nearly mint EVO 8 wheels for $450 from a local guy. Can't beat that for affordable winter usage. Now I just need to order winter muckers

And Kosei's are not junk or garbage. They're affordable and relatively light and commonly used by us weekend warriors when we want multiple sets of mounted R compounds. Just because it's inexpensive doesn't mean it isn't good or better than overpriced stuff. I do have a set of TE37's as well but my Kosei K1's are set up for wet weather tracking where I won't ruin my Volks either going off course or with aggressive brake dust.

5Zigen fno1rc are pretty cheap and durable.. $900 a set. Dont skimp on tire choice though a good set of winter might be around $700-900

Agreed on both counts....cheap evo 8 take off's would be my first choice.

And I feel like I see more Kosei wheels at autocrosses and the track then any other wheel.

i have a winter tire wheel package that i bought from the tire rack for my 03 8. ASA wheels with dunlop winter sport M3 tires. (stock size,V rated). They fit perfect and performed flawlessly for the 2 winters that i used them. I,m not going to put them on my IX this winter as i have a jeep grand cherokee i,ll be driving instead of the evo. I,ll miss the fun i had driving in the snow but i just dont want to get all the crap(salt, etc.) on the car this year. I have ssr sp1 professors on now with bridgestone REO50 pole positions(245x40 18). Wheels are 18x9 +31 offset. I,ll take the car out in the winter as long as the roads are clear but i wont be driving to spirited as the tires are a max summer tire and wont perform the same as in the warmer weather.BTW whatever Neal recommends to you i would listen as this man knows his stuff and has never steered me wrong with any advice he has given me about tire and wheel fit , finish and performance.
