Brake Pads and Tires....

I need to order new pads ASAP before next monday at VIR. What are some good pads you guys have used on track? Also same goes with tires. I was thinking Azenies since they are 'cheap' in relative terms compared to ADVANS. any experiences with these?

If you want some good pads that will take some abuse on the track but are still usable on the street, then I recommend Hawk HP+. With proper lube, they do not squeal on me at all, but they bite like crazy on the road course and have no problem on the street.

If you want non-R-comps, then do the Azeni RT-615 255/40-17 on stock-sized rims. They handle very close to the Advans but cost half as much. I love mine for daily driving and drag racing, but I have also ripped them up on the road course. They WILL get greasy after a while on course, though, so they aren't perfect, of course.

no r-comps yet...maybe towards end of the season next year.

The Azeni RT-615's...how are they in the rain compared to the stock ADVANS? I ran one track event on the stock advans in the rain and they were almost as good as they are in the dry which i loved. Also what would you consider 'greasy after a while'? I am running a chin event in december and thats about 3 hours of track time each day for 2 days...

I have not run any events in the rain, so I can't help there, but I have driven both the Advans and RT-615s in the rain on the street, and I could not tell a difference. That doesn't mean a whole lot, but it's better than if I noticed a dropoff with the Azenis, which I didn't.

Greasy just like the Advans...after 5 hot laps or so, they get squirrely. The Advans are great, but they don't do well when they heat up and neither do the Azenis. Of course, I'm saying this in reference to race tires, not to say that they are worse than other, inferior street tires. I ran full 25-min sessions over and over with my Azenis and was still blowing away Z06s, but they definitely weren't as grippy towards the end as they were at first. Nature of the beast...

One good place is discount tire direct. You can get a good price there and usually get free shipping. I have one of the discount tire stores across the street from me, so I had them match the price then install with the lifetime warranty and balancing for nothing extra. Not sure if this can always be done, but they bent over backwards to keep me from ordering online, and since they got the tires from their own warehouse, I still didn't pay shipping.

I agree with Warrtalon, Discount tire direct is great. I've bought tires & wheels from them twice and was very pleased. They always give free shipping too. Here's a link for a tire I ran on my spec Miata. Read the reviews it's suppossed to be better than the RT 615 and a lot less in cost

That's not much less in cost, and we haven't seen these perform better on Evos yet, though it may be possible.

I don't know how they'll do, but they did very well on my Miata, which is a totally different car. I've heard a lot of people talk about the 615's becoming greasy once they're hot and doing poorly in the rain.
Now my Goodyear F1 DG3'3 are a whole different story, they grip extremely well in the dry(they're a bit slippery until you get about 700 miles on them for break in, then they're awsome) and they grip incredibly in the rain as witnessed by several on Saturday on the Dragon, and you should've seen what they allowed me to do on Friday racing the bikes on the Dragon! They also did very well on Sebring Raceway, they are however pricey @ $231 per tire shipped! But I love them even tho they wore down to 4/32's @ 8K.

You could also look at Kuhmo MX's. Affordable and effective.

The Goodyear F1 GS-D3s are GREAT tires in the rain. These are the tires I'll be going with once the stock Advans wear down. That'll be next year though as I'll be putting on winter tires within a week. Maybe by then Goodyear will come out with some great replacements for the GS-D3.

No, they don't bubble out. Go to the tire/wheel forum - we've discussed this at least 50 times.

Eve-slow, no, the MX do not compare to the Advan nor the RT-615. He's going to be road racing on the tires he gets - the MX won't cut it.

This thread is actually informative since my OEM advans are pretty dead and cording now....

I'm trying to narrow my choices down between the Toyo RA1 (unshaved) and the RT615's...

I'm considering the 245/45/17 size for the OEM BBS wheels....would this be okay also Warr?
