Help: Brake Bleeding Gone Terribly Wrong!
Help: Brake Bleeding Gone Terribly Wrong!
Hey guyz,
I need your advices for what to do with my brakes now. I tried to bleed my brakes, getting ready for the trackday tomorrow. And one of metal nipples on the front brakes got totally stripped off. It literally got knocked off. Now, I have 2 important questions; 1) Is it safe for me to go to the track tomorrow? (I went for a testdrive, the brake feels fine and firm. No leaking oil or anything either)
2) What's the best way to repair this? Is it even possible.
Thank you guyz.
(MOD, I am posting this thread here, so that I can get more responses. Feel free to move to 'brake&suspension' thread if unappropriate.)

By metal nipple I am assuming you mean bleeder? If so did you strip the threads or the hex part? If it was the hex part where you tighten from then as long as its tight its ok. If you stripped the treads it is not safe to drive and the bleeder needs to be replaced. Also if you striped the threads check the treads on the caliper because if they are stripped you have a bigger problem than it sounds like you can handle.
Lancematic,
Thanks for the help, man. I really appreciate it.
Yes, I meant the bleeder. Also, it was my friend who was helping me out with 2-men bleeding method... It's the hex part that got knocked off, the thread in the caliper seems intact just by looking at it. How would I repair this? Damn, I am so frustrated.
I am looking at the stripped bleeder right now and I think that it's the hex part, but thread part is still there. It looks like a clean cut by metal-cutting machine.

Anyone else? Please help. I need to make my decision now, cuz I need to leave in 4 hours to head to the track if I decide to go. Although I would love to go and run, I don't wanna risk my life by doing so. Come on, I need some help here.

I wouldnt run it but thats just me. I'd assume it would hold and not leak considering the amount a torque it probably took to strip the bleeder.
So can you take a pic of your bleeder so we can figure out the best method to removing it. Can you get a new bleeder at a local auto store? Maybe some speed bleeders.

I cant determine if its safe or not over the internet. You might not have a problem...we need a pic of the bleeder to make any real assessment of issue.
Sounds like it would be a simple fix if you can find an auto store that has a bleeder instock. In order to tell the best way to remove it would require a pic. A pair of vise grips,

If the threads are TIGHT in the caliper you can drive on it TEMPORARALY! You can get a new bleeder at any Pepboys or Autozone when they open at 8am. So if I were you I would leave tonight, and bring ALL the tools needed to do the job. Then when you get there buy a new bleeder (same thread) and an extractor kit. The kit will come with an extractor and a drill bit. Just make sure you can do the job before you start cause as soon as that thread comes loose you loose your front brakes. If you dont feel comfortable doing it away from home just leave it and hope for the best. But if the brakes start to feel weak then stop and look for fluid leaking. Good luck, you'll def need it.
I am assuming that the bolt extractor kit requires an electric drill. If so, I am in trouble, cuz I don't have the drill. Maybe, I can borrow from my friends, but it's impossible to borrow right now. Damn, i will be blowing my track fees if I decide not to go. This sucks.... Thanks for the help guyz. I will take a pic of it tomorrow and post it here..
