Hey guys, 1st post - glad to be here.

This is after 500miles.. followed the break in specs. Is this normal?

That does not appear to be normal. I would let your dealer take a look at it. How do the rears look?

Yep, I agree.. 700 miles and the same wear pattern. The brakes require (what I guess to be) more effort than normal to slow the car down. I dont feel warpage in the rotors - the pedal is smooth, just an unwillingness to stop.

The rears look cherry..

What could be causing this??

Are those rings raised or grooved? It almost looks like they rings are areas where the pad is not contacting with the rotor and it is rusting a little. Hard to tell without touching them. Another possibility is that there is a raised spot on the rotor that is chewing out a small part of the pad. Sometimes there is a sealant put on rotors to keep any corrosion off during shipment, and little globs may be very hard and bite into the pad, resulting in the wear rings. You may be able to pop off a little chunk if you can find it with your fingers.

that's called pad transfer baby... the pads were not bedded correctly... you'll need a new set of pads, and likely the rotors will have to be resurfaced....

should all be under warranty...

I was thinkning along the same lines - the pads were slotted by something (rust, sealant) on the rotors.

I took it to the stealer this morning. We'll see what happens. I told them - don't turn the rotors - under any circumstances. Replace them..fine.

Hopefully they wont come up with a BS response. Turns out that neither of the techs went to Evo school.. Yeah

Got the car back from the dealer. I spoke to the tech and he confirmed the obvious - the rust created grooves in the pads. They were replaced and after about 20 miles of driving, the rust is gone.

Problem solved - YAh

File too large, can't post the pic I want and the 5 paragraphs I typed are gone. What a *****! (why does that happen? It doesn't happen on other boards!)

I'll type it one more time...

I've seen rings like that only smaller on my WRX. People were up in arms about this when the WRX first came to the States.

The cause was a coating sprayed on at the factory to protect the rotors during shipping. The dealers were to remove it before driving the car but many didn't. It gummed up on the rotors and pads. The spots that were gummed up prevented the pads from contacing the rotors and caused the concentric rings.

I was up in arms about it, but eventually just scraped off the burrs (see picture) with a small screwdriver. The rings went away in a day or so.

Your ring looks more serious, but who knows? Could it have been a similar issue?

Glad to hear you got it taken care of! Frankly, Subaru simply said "the brakes are fine (they were), we can't help you," which was really frustrating because the brakes certainly didn't LOOK fine.

Hope this helps someone.
