New brake pads....
i have about 37000 miles on my evo. i think i am going to need new brake pads soon. i am interested in the hawk hps or whatever the street ones are. do i need to "bed" the brakes when getting these new pads? is it custom to change the rotors too or should they last a little while longer? any help is appreciated! thanks.
I changed out the stockers for Ferodo DS2500s at about 35k and couldn't be happier. As for bedding them in I followed the directions inclueded on the pads of getting them hot (but not too hot) and cooling them repeatedly.

Here is what I did for my GranSport GS5 pads - very similar to DS2500s.
Bed-in:
10: 30mph to 10mph moderate braking then let cool for 15 mins
5: 50mph to 10mph hard braking then let cool for 30 mins
Full bed-in first ~1000 miles (taking it easy for the first 1000)
Brief spec sheet for my GS5s:
--friction coefficient up to 0.49
--operating temperature range of 100 – 850°F
--generates medium to high torque, flat-line output, linear stopping power, power, hot or cold
--rotor friendly while generating less dust and noise

Price: $240 for front and rear (shipped)
But I used GS6s before - more like the Hawk street pad. After 30k my rotors (with 50k) looked great - didnt need to turn them and that still had a good amount of material to them. But that was mostly to just drag racing and highway driving. This season I did more track days and I expect for more rotor year this next season with many more track days and more aggressive pads. But I really like the GS6s - only reason I went GS5 was for more performance and track racing.

I changed out my stock one at 31k to Hawk HPS. I followed the bed in instructions and have no problems at all with now. When I first put them I had the loud bus sounding squek when they got heated up. It went away in the first few hundred miles though. I would use them again. Also hardly any brake dust compared to the stocks one too.
