255/40/17s clear Ohlins?

Quick question for you suspension guys..

I've got the 5zigen FN01R-C 17x9et35 with 255/40-17 RA1s. I'm looking at getting the Ohlins FLAG suspension and wnated to find out if these wheels/tires would clear the coilovers without spacers?

Thanks

I would see no reason why not, you would have more room that if you had stock suspension...

Well, i was unsure how low the spring runs on the front. The wheels barely clear the front bilsteins and if the springs on the coilovers run lower it could be an issue..

The springs on most coilovers are much smaller in overall diameter than the stock spring/strut setup. The Ohlins probably use a 2.5" ID spring.

I realize that, but if the spring perch comes below where the stock perch ends, then that will put it beside the tire. As i only have 1/4" of clearance between the tire/shock-body as it is, if the spring perch comes down below the position of the stocdk mount i'm screwed..

It shouldn't be an issue, there are others on this board running the exact same setup (5Zigens, 255/40-17, Ohlins) that don't have any clearance problems.

We run the same wheel/tire combo on the WORKS Time Attack EVO with the WORKS/Ohlins Stage IV setup. We do use a spacer up front, but have done several other cars with the same/similar package as well without them.

I just installed my ohlins. I had to remove the helper springs on the front to clear 255 tires. Haven't had problems.

I have the Flag L (Works stage IV) and the exact same wheels and tires you are asking about, I needed a 5mm spacer to keep the tire from rubbing on the springs, but only on the front. I highly recommend extended wheel studs whenever you use a spacer.

I have that rim/tire combo with the Vishnu Ohlins set-up. I had interference problems if the front camber bolts are set to maximum camber. You can do two things to reduce the interference - remove the helper springs or change the position of the camber bolts to give minimum camber and adjust camber using camber plates. I did the latter. This seems to work OK, although my camber plates are maxed out on one side at -2.5 degrees.

In hindsight, the better solution is to keep the bolts maxed and remove the helper springs to give the clearance. This will give more adjustment range in the plates.
