17" Enkei RPF1 offset needed to clear calipers

On a stock 2005 suspension I am considering changing my stock 17x8 +38 mm wheels for Enkei RPF1 17x8.5 or 17x9 to run 255/40/17 tires.

Looking at the closest offsets to stock, the Enkei RPF1 17x8.5 comes in +30 mm or +40 mm. The 17x9 comes in a +35 offset

Which of these will fit without spacers and still clear the brembo calipers?
I have calculated the backspacing, but that just tells me if it will clear the inboard suspension components, not whether the spokes will clear the calipers.
Thanks

17x9 +22 is probably what you want. You'll need to run a spacer up front to clear the brembos.

And I would suggest a 17x9.5 +38 for the 255 tires. That's what I would do

I am running 17x10 +38 with 245/45/17 Hoosiers. 22MM spacer in the front. 20MM was still very very close. Like paper width close. And a 5MM spacer in the back. Without the spacer in the back the tires would rub the the LCA.

Personally i would go 17x9 +35 and run whatever spacer you need to clear the calipers. Less screwing around and it will clear the rear fenders easily.

i wouldnt run them on a bet. i did wheels and tires for 7 years and we refused to even sell them and we sold a lot of shady stuff that i personally would never run. the ones i worked on were all junk, soft aluminum and you could hardly torque the pressed in studs to factory spec without stripping the knurling off.

The 17x8.5 +30 are the largest/widest 17" RPF1's that fit without a spacer or any rubbing and I personally have used them with 255's with no issues. The +40 offsets will work but will make your track width narrower. 17x9 is a better fit for 255 tires but the spoke shape changes with the F1 above 8.5" so they no longer clear the brakes without spacers. As for using spacers in general I've had a set of 15mm bolt ons on my car for years now, done several track days, auto-x, etc. with them and never had an issue, if they're mounted properly there's not reason for concern.

thank you sscottttt for answering the question I asked, which is what can I run without spacers. I didn't know the spoke shape changed from 17x8.5 to 17x9. Plenty of info on what I can run with spacers, no need to revisit that here. A 3mm spacer might be tolerable, as that can be slipped over the existing studs without going to longer studs. But if I had to run anything more than a 3 mm spacer, I won't do it. I will live with wheels and tires I can run on a stock set up.

I have run 17x8 +35 offset on my car before. The spokes were VERY close to the caliper but it cleared it just fine. They were my auto-x wheels so they saw some abuse. Never rubbed against the caliper at all.

I assume any set of RPF1s will require a separate matching set of 60 degree conical lug nuts, as the factory lug nuts and factory Enkeis have the own unique shape and seat in the wheel?

Yes. The RPF1s are acorn style while the stock are mag.

i've personally have been running 20mm Ichiba bolt on spacers for the past two years with zero problems. the first year was on my 18x9.5 +27 NT03's with 255 *specs and this year 18x10+38 RPF1's with 285 Hoosier R6s. after every session i re-torque all my lug nuts, if u don't ur asking for trouble, and the lugs nuts on the spacers never untorqued themselves

17x8 ET35 clears with no issues

17x8.5 ET30 clears with no issues

17X9 ET22 9mm into the front of the caliper. Needs piloted spacer and longer studs to work.

17X9.5 ET18 clears the calipers.

Thanks Neal! already been checking out your website for wheels and maybe a set of Michelin's while the $70 rebate is still good. I bought some last fall for my other car when that rebate was on.

BTW- if I order the Enkeis from tire rack, do they come with the correct lug nuts and a 67.1-73 mm centering ring?

No problem! Yes, still going though the 28th this month. All hardware will be included at no cost. Mention my name on the order and I'll make sure all is included.
