The stock bar is pretty strong but the aftermarket ones (from a reputable company) will be stronger.

There's nothing wrong with it; people just want something better.

weight differences? IMHO, I'm keeping my stock one, no need to waste money on a new one

I doubt you will ever notice a difference with the aftermarket ones, mitsu did a dam good job making the stock one, only benefit of aftermarket would be one that has a brace like the carbing...

Stock one weighs about 7 lbs. From what I have seen other aftermarket 3 point bars are in the 5 lb area. So weight savings are 2-3 lbs at best.

I guess its not worth it seing how you can easily shave 2-3 lbs somewhere else and keep 350 dollars in your wallet

When I took the stock one off I noticed it is alot more pliable and bends much easier than aftermarket strut bars. I still think its strong enough to keep the car from flexing though but not sure if it would do as well as the aftermarket strut bar.

You're right. My stock bar weighs almost _exactly_ 7 lbs on the high precision scales at the engineering lab next to our FSAE shop in albuquerque.

I can't imagine making it out of anything (even titanium) and getting a bar that is lighter than 2 lbs, so you're talking a weight loss of 5 lbs at most.

That being said, I have the mitsu aluminum one which is a couple of lbs lighter. Can't hurt.

Remember the purpose of that bar it to keep the strut towers together, not to push them apart.

good aftermarket ones might save weight, be a bit stiffer and add some bling but also seperates your evo from the rest. i plan to get a works one but first i want to get things that my evo doesn't have before i upgrade things it does have.
