Whats everyone running on?
I'm surprised nobody mentioned the Goodyear Eagle GS-D3. I had a set on my AWD Talon and loved them. They also won many comparisons/surveys/awards. I dunno if they're as good in the dry as the stockers, but they're way better in the wet and should give similar dry performance.
right now, it's Michelin Alpin, summer is Continental, love the Alpin in winter, it actually accetaple as an all season, good wear, IMO, anyone have any experience on the Alpin as a year round tire?
how big a tire can we run on the stock rims?stock 235-45-17. 245? 255? i think it really comes down to budget and environment. there are so many diffrent tires out there for diffrent purposes. get what suits u best. kumha's, toyo's, yoko's seem to be the bang for the buck tires out there. you can find specials every now and then. i got a set of nitto 555 for $90 from a tire dealer here. because he had a set left he wanted to get rid of. just shop around.
I have BFGoodrich G-Force sport tires on mine. They are not advans but they get the job done in dry and wet as well as a great price at about 90 bucks a tire from tire rack for the stock tire size.
I run the bfgoodrich g-force Ta KDW's on my gsr (integra) and Im pretty happy with them. I've driven them through 3 autox's, plenty of high g cornering around town or on the highway, and have probably put 10,000 miles on them and I have about 40% tread left still. I think they offer great dry grip and awesome wet grip as well. However they were about $100 for my 205/50/15's
. But remember this is all on a relatively torqueless car.
I used to run T1Rs on my previous car. Thinking they would be a good compromise between a street tire and a track tire I bought a set. I figured the RA1s were so damned good, how could I go wrong........
After two track days I ditched them. Hard to properly break in, bad when cold, mushy at the limit and sloppy in transitions.
In last year's tire comparo on Car and Driver, the T1Rs came in 8th out of 11. It was noted that they performed last on the autoX and skidpad - being drubbed by the front runners by a large margin.......

I drove on mich pilot alpin PA2s through May before switching back to the stock advans for the remainder of the warmer months, they seemed to wear fine and stuck pretty well on my once a month spirited drive through the twisty back roads on the way home from a match.
Just did 12.5 hours straight in the rain on Christmas day coming from Georgia back to Delaware. My stock Advans now have 18,000 miles and just love them. I was pleasantly surprised how well they performed seeing that traffic flowed consistently at 70-80mph for most of the journey. Looking to buy a replacement set from someone who switched theirs out.
What your describing your looking for is a tire with good grip. Can do well in almost all weather, and has a good life. Correct? If thats what your looking for go ASX. If you have the money to buy both summer and winter tires then get some dunlop winter tires, and get the Falken RT-615's for the summer.
