LOL. Point exactly. But, it is good to get out there in the snow with some performance tires (like the advans) to get a good gauge of how bad they really are.

Just as warrtalon states. If your area isnt like Colorado or Vermont, you'll do fine with all seasons. Kumho AST or ASX or Toyo Proxes 4 work very well in PA weather.

 

i see your point, but threads like this are good. it gives people the heads up. threads like this shouldn't bother ya that much since its safety stuff.... i can understand like which intake or exhaust is better. i live in fl so i would never bother reading about that stuff in the manual. but from seeing all these threads in the past couple months for the road trip in a few weeks i'm swapping cars with my parents so i dont drive in the snow.

roger that on the ASX's. i have these on my wife's WRX and a Civic I just sold that made it to the airport on the freeway in 6-10" of unplowed snow (1 hour drive when it is dry out).

I'm running the dunlop graspic DS-2s and they are great in bad weather. Dry handling kinda sucks though but they are similar to the WS-50s.

I hate to see the same thing all the time too but this is just a wake up call and a reminder, not all the people here know you cant do everything in the EVO.

there are a lot of new guys to the EVO and the Advan's, trust me everyone makes a stupid mistake sometime especially in the winter, you just say to yourself hey its AWD how bad can it be?

Its really bad driving with the stock tires, for me my evo felt like a stick of butter when you place it in the frying pan you know it just slides all over the place.

A post like this should be mandatory before every winter, no one told me and I learned the hard way.

I'm using the snow tires that I had in my Mini Cooper S: 205/50 17. They fit perfectly on stock wheels.

If it took you a bad experience to learn not to ride advans in snow, you should not own an evo

The owners manual clearly states the tires are not all season and should not be driven in bad weather

There is a sticker on the door that says the same thing.

Even the purchase paperwork and disclaimer *AND WARRANTY* papers say the same thing.

If you cannot afford a set of winter tires and rims for your car, or a second POS car to drive, then you can't afford to own this car..

 

from the initial video it seems that you were driving more than what the weather condition permits you. anyway, not to condone driving the stock advans but last night I was forced to do so because the forecast was there was no more snow and I figured I will be stuck working all night operating on a patient. unfortunately it was postponed until this AM. I drove the evo home in 2 inches of packed snow, in hilly terrain with uphill and downhill curves and it performed superbly. 35-40 degree incline was easily tackled by the stockers in 2nd gear without pressing on the brakes, using the engine for braking instead.

it was more of driver skill than anything else.
