Are 17s really better than 16s?

Before any body gets confused I DRIVE AN EVO IV AND THEY COME STOCK WITH 16S

I've got 17s on it now and I was running 225/45 and those tires were great on my VI, but when I put them on my IV I was getting massive wheel rub. I switched to a 215/45 and wheel rub is gone but I don't like the ride. So I was thinking bout going back to the original 16s so I can put a meatier track tire on. I know I could roll the fenders but I can't see myself doing that. Until my driving skills improve I'm not building a time attack Evo and don't see a need to roll the fenders.

So basically I want to know is there any really track/auto-x advantage to running 17s over 16s?

Yes and no. 16s are often lighter and easier to fit. They also often cost less which is nice as you eat up tires when you track a car.

17s how ever have shorter sidewalls which are stiffer and roll less which can be nice. They may ride a little stiffer on the street at times but the fact that you can find the things in almost every possible size and sidewall from countless manufactures means you will be able to find exactly what you want.
