This makes sense, if you have struts front and rear with similar motion ratios....unfortunately this isn't the case on an EVO.

It's a bit more complicated then just putting stiffer springs where more weight is.

The fastest guy/girl is the one with the most experience.

But actually, all of the fastest auto-x guys and girls are running stiffer springs in the rear, and from what I can tell, so are the time attack people.

It's not too complicated, just a little physics. Plus it just feels a lot better.

I personally don't like to get too crazy with huuuge rear rates (except for auto-x) and there is some benefit to having stiff front springs. BUT the rear should still be stiffer.
