Update on the RPM2 fitment saga

Just got in a set of the RPM2s in the 17" by 9" 40mm offset, which Discount verified to fit with Enkei in Japan. Well, they fit... mostly. The front rim spokes rub the inside edge of the Brembo calipers, and will scrape the paint off the two rounded portions there.

My remedy is putting one 12mm #8 hardened washer on each lug, then mounting the rim onto them. Thats all it takes for clearance, roughly 1/16".

I may have some 1/4" spacers made with the hubcentric ring machined into them, 67mm on the inside and 73mm on the rim side, but till then I am happy with the washer thing.

If I didn't like the wheels so much I wouldn't be putting myself through this...

if you are going to use spacer,or washers. please be sure to check your torque specs VERY regularly.

I am very disappointed in this info. I spoke with 3 seperate Enkei reps yesterday all of which verified the 17x9 fitment because of its larger mouting pad surface. obviously its close...but they should have known that. I cant apologize enough for your troubles. I do wish you well at your show. Please let us know what we can do for you.

As of this morning Enkei verified two fitments...the RP02-j, and rpf-1. They say they have seen, and verified these fitments on evo viii.

Todd,

Which RPF1 are we talking about here?

17x8 with 35mm offset
17x8.5 with 40mm offset
17x9 with 35mm offset?

gtr: I'm thinking the same thing... however if you look at the Enkei site I think it says Evo 7 fitment is the 17x8.5 wheel. On top of this, if the 17x8 +35 RPM2 won't fit, I doubht the RPF-1 would fit since its spokes are more inboard than the RPM2.

Discount tire said they personally test fitted the RPF1 on the evo 8. This is the only 17 X 8 wheel that is known to fit by them so far.

RPM2, 17 by 9 40mm require a 3mm spacer on the fronts. Cost me $11 for the spacer, and the rims look sweet on the car.

Enkei Japan has told me the RPF1 17 x 8 +35MM , RPF1 17 x 8.5 +30MM and the RPO2 17 x 9 +35 are all OK. RPO2 17 x 8 +35MM is no good. Checking with them about the US 17 x 8 +40MM RPO2 to see what they say. Remember Japan has the RPF1 in 18 inch and also a extra color white !!!

That looks absolutely gorgeous on your evo!

Too bad it isn't "quite" right. Good news on the rpf1 though, its a good fit, its good for a stock autox, and its only a mere 15.2 lbs.

Todd from Discount Tire...

I've got the 17x9 RPM2s on the way. They were ordered before I saw the post.
You mention the RPF1s in stock size fit.
1 - Is that with or w/out spacers?
2 - What is Discount Tires price for RPF1s in the stock 17x8 5x114 +35 size?

Still on stock tires, but really need to step up to 245/45s or 255/40s. I need to test fit a 255/40 on the rim, to see if it clears the strut with the deeper offset. Should know for sure later today.

Final update on these... 255/40 tires fit, very close to the strut, but they work.
