New tires needed? bad alignment?
New tires needed? bad alignment?
Well spring is finally here and I decided to mount my summer tires. After digging them up from the basement I realized they aren't in the greatest condition. I don't track the evo or even drive hard around town (i do a good chunk of highway driving). I also made sure to have them properly inflated along with rotating them. I'm going to blame this on a poor alignment from the factory. I only got a season out of them (i was shooting for two). Do you think I could push another season with them? The thing that scares me the most is on the inner side of one of the tires it seems as it is so worn that I can actually push the rubber down a little bit (almost like there is a bubble).
Every tire has about the same tread amount from the middle out. It seems like tread wear only varies on the very inside of each tire.
Here are some pics:
Two of the tires are like this (pretty descent I think even wear for the most part)

Heres the general tread on all the tires. All the tires have basically the same tread amount from the middle out.

This one tire is a little worrying since it seems the inner side is very worn.

And this is the one that worries the most with the inner side being able to be pushed by your finger.

and me just pushing down the bubble part with little pressure

It's really hard to tell anything from just looking at pictures, but from what you describe I think your tires have had it. Since you mention the factory alignment, I'm pretty sure this is the cause. My stock advans only lasted about 12k because of the bad alignment from the factory and many others have seen the same thing. My guess is that you need both a new alignment and new tires.
That is due to out of spec toe. Whatever camber setting you had only dictated where that excessive wear would take place.
Factory alignment, by the book, should not cause excessive wear like that. But like the other guy mentioned, it looks like a lot of Evo's have come out of Japan with whacked out alignment settings. So you cannot assume that it was straight from the factory. How many miles did you put on those tires?

That wear pattern in your pictures is due to a combination of a relatively sticky compound tire (soft) and aggressive alignment specs. It’s the price we pay for excellent handling. You could compromise by getting a harder tire and setting the alignment specs less aggressive. I just got my 3rd set of tires. Because I drive mostly highway, I got all weather tires and I had the alignment set with less negative camber all round, zero toe front and a little bit of toe-in at the rear. The car still feels all right and we will see how the tires last.

Ordered a new set of tires for the evo, along with an alignment done. Thanks for the help everyone. I want to say I received 15k miles out of these tires. Although it's a bit hard to say since I've switched over to winter tires twice already.
Well I got my new set of tires on, Wanli S-1088, and to put it nicely, they suck. I get more squash from side to side then I did with my Dedicated snow tires (dunlop wintersport m3). and the grip on them is very unpredictable, they will all of a sudden break loose without any warning. I made a big mistake here and I'm gonna bite the bullet and purchase another set of tires.
It's between these 3 tires. The qualities that i'm looking for are the tires must last me 30k miles(i drive easy/no track), and good steering reponse.
Fuzion ZRI
Sumitomo HTRZ II
General Exclaim UHP
any help? I'm leaning towards the fuzions ZRI but i'm not sure how the tread life is on those.
