What would it take to improve steering feel?

I've noticed more slack than I like in the steering feel of my Evo VIII and was wondering which, if any/all of the following:

- Cusco Lower Arm Bar I
- Cusco Lower Arm Bar II
- Whiteline Steering Precision Kit

I've looked through the forums and not found anyone who is using this on a car that sees track duty, and feedback on whether these

- improve the steering feel
- improve turn-in response
- have any effect on understeer/oversteer

I would really appreciate any feedback as I can get, as I am trying to decide the best course of action to improve handling feel.

On a similar note, I'm planning to get a shifter base bushing kit. Aside from improving the feel, does it have any negative effect on synchros? Which is a good brand to get?

To improve turn-in, some racers will opt for a litte bit of toe-out in front. You don't want to go crazy as it will chew up your tires, but it will help in a pinch.

Strut tower bars should help a bit to improve steering feel and turn-in, although how noticeable it would be is debatable.

I can't comment on the mods you listed because I'm not too sure what they are.

+1 ... and maybe upgraded polyurethane front swaybar bushings ... (off topic) I know they used to make upgraded steering rack bushing for the WRX, don't think they make them for the EVO. Running stiffer springs also improves response ....

Also make sure your dont have too much sidewall roll from your tires. I switched from 235 to 245 and guess what it sucks, car does not respond as it did before or it does, but I just dont feel it as good.

Ralliart makes a hard rubber steering rack bushing, but I heard it's a real bear to install.

Here's some linkage:

Wheels and tires can make a really big difference with the feel. If you are rolling blingy 20" wheels there is little you can do.

As was also mentioned a good alignment will also help. Ideally it should be balanced and designed around your suspension setup.

It is interesting that you are complaining about the Evo's turn in. I usually have no issues with the start of the turn. It is only as I hunt for the apex on the stock suspension and start rolling over the front tire do I feel it at all lacking.

You might also consider, depending on budget, a set of quality coilovers. I know that Vishnu (Chronohunter) setup also has alignment specs to make sure you take the most advantage the coilovers.

Good luck

Simple answer here.

Raise your front tire pressures 4 psig from where you have them now.

This is a free mod, so you dont need to spend high dollar amounts like alot of people think you do to fix something minor.

Thanks, guys. The tyre pressure trick will be a stopgap measure while I get my hands on a good set of coilovers. I'm considering the Cusco 02R vs Ohlins PCV vs HKS Hipermax Pro

Any recommendations?
