Problem with 255/40/18's
Hi,
I just installed Advan RGII GTR face with 255/40/18 RT615. I am have rubbing issues from rear wheels when going over some bumps or taking sharp corner also some from front wheels when turning the wheels . I have a stock hight 06 EVO MR. I thought that running 255 would be fine with stock height. What are my options right now? rolling the fender?
how much does it cost to roll the fender generally?
thanks

I believe that 40 serie tires are a bit wider and thicker then the 35 serie. I have the same rims with 255/35/18 S03 tires on tein coilvers without rubbing even with the lowest setting. My car is lowered 1.5 finger gap all around.
Actually the 40 is for the height... 255 is the width. Stock is 235 width. Running a 255 /40/18 people have reported rubbing, but most people are ok if they run a 255/35/18, which is about the biggest and widest you can put in the stock rear wheel well without rubbing. You are just barely a size too big to clear so just minor rolling job is needed as long as you dont go to a wider tire down the road where you would need to also have the fenders pulled out a bit. Maybe you can find an evom member in your area that has a fender rolling tool that would just charge you to roll it yourself- or you can buy one brand new or pay for a local shop to do it. Some people that buy them to roll their fenders will rent them out for cheap, I'd post in the regional forum and see if there is somebody nearby with a rolling tool willing to help. Good luck!
Why do people think that you can run the same aspect ratio tire when moving up to 18" wheels! Think about it, 255/40/17 tires are ~255mm wide and the sidewall is ~40% of that, making them ~102mm, or about 4.02", tall. Double that (8.04") then add 17" for the wheel diameter and you get ~25.04" overall diameter (most 255/40/17 tires range from 25"-25.2" overall diameter, which is less than the stock 25.3" advans...) Perfect, fits like stock, etc...
Now, do that same math, but add another inch for the 18" wheel diameter, and you are looking at a tire that is ~26" tall! Gee, why doesn't my tire fit when it's an inch taller than stock? Hmmmmm can't imagine...
Anyway, you should have done some research because you bought the wrong size of tire...
If you would have gotten 255/35/18's, you would have been fine, or at least a lot better off...
