Improving car handling?
Improving car handling?
Good day,
Am another noob around posting for opinion on the wheel setup with my car. I wasn't the first owner and still figure what could make my car handling better. The car is my only daily ride to work. Here's some details of current setup:
Lancer Evolution VII GSR (with ACD & AYC fortunately in Asia)
a) Wheel
Front: 2 x Volk TE37 (17x8.5) with 5mm spacer
Rear: 2 x Volk TE37 (17x9) without spacer
b) Tyre
Front: 2 x Eagle Revspec RS-02 (235/45/17)
Rear: 2 x Yokohama AD07 (235/45/17)
c) Suspension
Aftermarket adjustable soft/hard (40 knot front 20 knot rear), low/high, pivot mounts hotbits with coilover (www.hotbits.org) See picture below.

It may sound funny why would I get an offset wheel for front&rear but they were pre-own by previous owner. I love the wheels and the setup above works moderate for me. The 17x8.5 used to be rear while 17x9 at front and that setup make my car slide a lot cause the previous owner like it. Thinking if I swap those wheel around, it could improve handling and I guess it did (I hate the spacer but that could prevent the wheel slicing by brembo).
So my question is:
i) Would handling be much better if I change the tyre size without putting extra load on my AYC?
ii) I got the point as I read from these section that different tyre would make AYC work more aggresively, so ideally changing the 4 set of tyre would balance the entire wheel. But what impact of the setting above could damage in long run? Comments?
iii) Does extra spacer for rear wheel make the car more balance?
iv) What setting works if I were to send the car for alignment? +0.6 for front and +0.9 for rear? (still a dummy in alignment thingy, will read more but comment are welcome)
v) Other enhancement for longer tyre durability, then come second more grip, any comment? Am sticking to manufacturer standard with standard toe
Here's some picture for the front and rear wheel I captured today.
Note: Front wheel 17x8.5 with 5mm spacer, the red mark is the spacer

Note:Rear wheel 17x9

Start with a neutral alignment. 0 toe front, 0 toe rear, try maybe -2 camber front, -1 camber rear and see how you like it. Since you're not running a known coilover setup, the rest is really difficult to even guess at, but I would certainly recommend having all 4 tires the same.
