Auto Cross tire recomendation
I am running in STU class right now. I am willing to go up to a faster class if I have to.
Stock wheel size. I have a second set of BBS wheels for these new tires.
Budget of $1000
I run very fast with my stock tires. I am always top 10. I think that a stickier tire will prevent all of the sliding and improve my times.
Thanks

I think either hanooks or Falkins would be close behind.
Before jumping into R compound tires, decide which class you want to run in. These days, BSP will allow you many more mods than STU. But if you have changed the brake rotors (specifically 2 peice rotors allowed in STU) or the turbo, then you are already in SM with the addition of R compounds.

IMHO-stay on street tires until you are consistently at the top of your current class. This will ensure that you know that you have a handle on your setup and know the limits what the car can do after putting in plenty of seat time. R-comps can mask bad habits.
Also, don't let r-comps be the only mod that bumps you into a higher class. Tires should be a part of a strategic plan in your setup-i.e. better tires will magnify weaknesses in your existing setup. Consider all of the other mods allowed in the higher class that may be necessary to be competitive.
Also, be prepared for the full frontal assault that awaits you in street mod if you are in a competitive region. I was invited into SM by a couple of local drivers and quickly found myself swimming with sharks

If you are dead set on changing tires at each event (no small decision) go with Kuhmo V710 (my experience -excellent grip, love you long time) or the Hoosier A6 (supposedly even more grip than the 710, but I hear they do not last as long)<--hope to learn about the Hoosiers firsthand next month.
There was some talk at solo nationals that the Hoosiers possibly provided a one second advantage over the Kumhos over a 55 second course.
Hold on, man, I think you're really confused. You think that you're going to do so much better when you put on r-comps, but you're completely missing the point about the classing system. Finishing top 10 right now in STU doesn't really mean anything, because when you toss on r-comps and try to run BSP or SM, you will be WAY OUTMATCHED. You aren't realizing how being in STU is helping your index tremendously, and that's strictly BECAUSE you are only allowed street tires in STU.
If you go to BSP or SM, you'll need a LOT of power mods, a crazy suspension, and huge tires. You will not want to use stock rims in those classes, because that will limit you to small race tires. For instance, I run SM and have 18X9.5 rims with 285/30-18 V710s with the Vishnu/Gerrard Ohlins and close to 400whp/400wtq. Last year, I ran with stock suspension and stock BBS rims with 245/45-17 V710s. I was barely competitive in SM, but I was not competitive in the overall standings (top 40 or so) at all. This year, I'm finishing way ahead of SM (my local SM is weak, though) and top 5 overall - huge difference.
Not sure why the guys at Tire Rack would recommend the A048. That's sort of strange.
