You need a second set for the winter. Advans and other tires like it are completely useless in the snow or in freezing weather - they are very dangerous to use in those conditions. If you get all seasons to use all year, then your Evo will basically be neutered. It will be like having an attack dog with no teeth. However, you have been driving on Nitto 555s, which are terrible, so you probably won't notice the difference.

 

Hakkappolitta RSI for the winter. Mount/dismount usually $60-80. You could do this for 10 years before this costs you as much as a set of used stock MR wheels.

On any ultra high performance tire it is a huge risk to drive in the snow. Very hard to stop the car even when driving 25mph. DONT DO IT!!!!

All seasons belong on your moms car.

 

Dizzle, people sell used stock Enkeis for 400 with tires. That's a better solution than mounting and dismounting all the time, imo. For instance, we just had a near blizzard here in CO, and it's late April. I had already switched back to my street tire combo - no way could I go re-mount the snow tires on a moment's notice, but I can easily switch to my other rims.

Just keep track in the for sale forum - I see stock Enkeis sell for cheap all the time. Sometimes, they even have barely-used Advans on them, in which case you wouldn't even have to buy performance tires, because you'd already have the best.

 

I completely agree. The RE-01Rs are amazing.

The 245/45/17s fit well on the stock rims.

I'm very impressed with my set, and I will be ordering another set when this one wears out!

 

I know everyone is going to say 615's... But the the RE01R's are far superior. Maybe not for solo/autox, the 615 might be a little stickier out of the gate and for a short autox run, but I think would quickly get passed by a REO1R on a trackday.
Just MHO. They just dont fall off lap after lap... And then drive home quietly.

I agree with LDOGGYDIZZLE. The Falken's RT-615 are junk. The only reason to buy them is for the price. The 235/40/18 and 245/40/18 are 137 and 152 respectfully. Where the RE-01 are 211 or 216 per tire. You just have to ask your self are the RE-01's worth the extra money?

I may give these tires one more try myself but only in 235/40/17. If I were to buy the RE-01's I'd probably get them in 245/40/17 not 245/45/17.

They are not junk, and we aren't talking about using them as track tires. I'm not sure where that variable came into the equation. Notice the OP's criteria.

Also, I _have_ used these on track and still p ut down blistering track times. I have a whole video showing me rocking 3 separate Z06s who are on race tires while I'm on my RT-615s. Yes, they get greasy after several laps, but they still are great for what they are. Most people are just driving their cars on the street - we are not suggesting it as a track-use tire despite the fact they still perform quite well.

As for the price, yes, that is the point. If people didn't mind spending $200+, then they'd just get a new set of stock A046s...

 

As for the stock AO46s, that would be a 17". A 17" REO1R is $168!!! Way cheaper than a AO46 and on par as far as performance but way quieter and nice ride. The 18" seem to jump up a bit in price. But hell, its a bridgestone not a Falkin.

I prefer the 45 series because its closer to stock but taller. Better ride, more rim protection, and lower rpms at 70 mph. Maybe better for MR's for the 1/4 mile using the 6spd too.

 

45 is just the aspect ratio, which is a percentage of the tire width, so it cannot be referenced in a vaccuum. A 255/40 is much closer to the stock tire height than a 245/45, which is quite a bit taller.

The RE-01Rs may be great, but they are very rarely mentioned, and the likelihood of them performing extremely well while also being very quiet is very slim.

 

Not to hijack, but are you saying the 615s or REO1Rs are good in snow too, or just rain? I live in Baltimore so I'm going to be getting a late fall-early spring set for my Evo.
