new tires, suggestions?

Ok Im sure this has been posted before, but I want to see if there is any new information.

I've searched and seen a lot of people recommending the 615's, look nice but some say they are crappy in the rain. I live in salisbury and here lately it seem thats all it wants to do.

Any way I have 235 40 18 on there now. nitto 555 i think, (they were on the car when I bought it)

I would like something great for performance and in a decent price range, something with an aggressive looking tread design maybe?

Could I fit a wider tire on there? I have ssr comp type c's I think 18x8.5

thanks in advance
cheers

So these are for street mostly? Only?

Kumhos are nice but if your going street only their SPTs are actually pretty cool.

If you want serious grip Advan Neovas are special.

sorry should have put that in the original post. They are for street mostly, some runs here and there.

I got on the kumho website, not seeing 255 40 18.

Thanks again guys

RT-615s don't suck in the rain. They are a little better than the stock Advans, and I don't see people taking their Advans off just because they suck in the rain. Yes, in the snow, remove the Advans (or RT-615s or any other summer tire), but they are fine in the rain - no problem at all.

Nitto 555s are terrible, and you definitely want bigger than a 235 on an 8.5" rim.

I think it depends on your definition of 'rain' What people consider 'rain' out here in so. cal constitutes a sprinkle in Florida or Texas. If the ground is wet, the 615s will be okay. If it rains like in Florida or Texas where you have half inch deep water, you're screwed.

Warr, Im sure the rally experience helps a ton!!!

Bridgestone REO1R's are the shiznit in the dry and the rain. No other tire manufacturer has as much rain testing as Bridgestone with the F1 R&D they have. I have a set of these on my EVO and they are great at the track and in the wet. Also very nice ride, turn in, and very low noise- even after track abuse.

tire rack tests:

All other tires are weak sauce!!!

Now that is what I wanted to know, I have no trouble in the rain with my advans, in fact I could accelerate from a stoplight like crazy in the rain, I enjoy driving the car in it, in fact.

I couldn't find side by side data on the advans vs. 615's

+1 for 615's. depending on your wheel offset, if you go with a wider tire you may need to go with a 35 wall height.

I read somewhere on the forum a guy in Orlando, FL getting 28K out of 615s and he said they were pretty good on the rain.

I don't know if they make them in a 255/40/18, but I have a set of Michelin PS2's and they are great in the wet and dry weather with decent wear. Just MO...

so I dont have any extra rims for the winter stuff. Are the summer tires just bad in the snow or is it actually not good for the tire?

I have another vehicle I could drive around but its not good in the snow either?

should I get a good all season tire r is it not worth it.

Again thanks to everyone that has replied

cheers
