I used the Eagle One stuff too with great results. I certainly needed to wipe off all the brake dust - as in, letting and soak and then rinsing wasn't good enough - but it was so bad I had honestly forgotten what color my wheels were. I thought they were about as dark as my paint (GG) and was pleasantly surprised when I washed 'em off and saw they were a nice bright silver

Just spray it on, let it soak for just a little bit (15-30 seconds), and all the dirt and brake dust wipes away easily. I have no idea if it worked much better than soap would have though. It definitely loosened up everything nicely, to the point I could wipe it clean with my finger. My calipers were completely unaffected.

Why not just regular car wash? I use Megs Gold Class car wash and pour it in a spray bottle. Spray on wheel and scrub away with an oxo wheel brush. WOrks for me and no scratches

Do you even know what a magic eraser is? It's an ultra fine abrasive. Ultra fine, yes, but still an abrasive. Ever so slightly with every application, you are dulling the finish on your rims. Yes, you're removing dust, dirt and grime, but that's not it. You're removing material from the rim, also. If you're happy cleaning and damaging at the same time, go ahead. It's your property.

Yeah, I always throw a coat of wax on when I mount the wheels and tires (and occasionally refresh it)... the dust comes off about 85% just rinsing it.

So what do I do with brake dust so baked on that even a green scotch-brite will not get it off... Is there anything that will cut through the dust?

I use Simple Green to clean the wheels and brake dust off the calipers. I also clean the inside of the wheels every week when I wash the car so there is never that much build up on the wheels that it would be difficult to remove.

I try to wash my car every week so no huge buildup on the wheels.

After I finish washing the body of my car, I take out the microfiber washing mit for the body and rinse it, and set it aside.

There's still good car-wash solution in the bucket, so i pop in the wash mit specifically for the rims in there, as well as the brush for the tires. 99% of the time all the dirt comes off, and i throw on a coat of wax, and I'm done.

On the off chance it's caked on... simple green works wonders.

As for using Magic Erasers... they do work, and work well... but you need to be careful on what kind of finish your wheels have (it has warnings right on the box). If you do use magic erasers, make sure to polish/wax/seal your rims afterwards.

Cleaning BBS wheels suck. I just let the brake dust powdercoat them. Otherwise, I use a wheel brush with soap and water.
