Brake pads and rotor question

I read somewhere on the forum that its best to install new pads first and to break them in before installing rotors. What are the disadvantages if I break in new pads on brand new slotted rotors?

You should break in the pads and rotors together.

No disadvantages whatsoever. Matter of fact it's preferred.

Where ever you read that it's "best to install new pads first and to break them in before installing rotors" is incorrect.

What you want is to have the new pads conform to the new rotors w/o having to do away with the old brake pad surface. This is also why you resurface your rotors every time you change brake pads. Think about it. If you break in the new pads on your old rotors (assuming you're going to change rotors) you'll be grooving out the new pads to whatever the old rotors surface is and cause more wear & tear on both components initially.

Hope this helps & makes sense.

yeah, and get rid of the myth that "slotted is better".

slotted is junk. unless you have a PHAT wallet.

Normal flat rotors are fine.

Go with aftermarket units at the best price, the stock ones are so expensive for what you get...
