Brakes squealing
Just installed some brand new Hawk HPS pads with 50k mile rotors from an 06 that has close to no rust. I did the break-in procedures as said on the box but I'm stilling getting very VERY loud squealing from the breaks. Loud enough to make my ears ring while my windows are rolled up. It doesn't sound like there's multiple squealings so I think it has to be a single pad. It only sounds when I'm coming to a complete stop using moderate pressure. When I press hard, it doesn't sqeal.
How I installed it was put the pads with the metal clips (for giving you a notice that you're break pads should be replace ASAP) in the back of the rotors. The fronts only had these clips and both clips were on the left side of the pads. The right/front caliper has the pads in the back pointing downward while the other side is upward. I used the grease that came with the pads and put them all over the back of the pads. There was already a plate in the back of the pads so I just used those instead. Anyone have any ideas why I'm still getting sqealings?

I thought the grease that came with the pads was anti squeal stuff.
I have the old Brembo shims but the HPS already came with shims on them already. I don't know if I'm supposed to re-use the shims or not.

I'm having the same problem with my Hawk HPS pads. Kind of disappointing because I paid $160 for them and they were advertised as having little to no brake noise.
The only plus side to them is the brake dust isn't that bad.

sometimes the OEM shims are better and should be used if it will fit. also the anti-squeel grease should be applied not only to the back but also to the sides(especially where the tension spring sits)
My brakes squeal like crazy with hawk pads. I'm used to it, it's funny to see people look at you when you come to a red light or stop sign. One thing that I hate about the pads is they get brake dust all over the wheels and car.

I just installed HP+ pads on my car over the weekend as well. I knew they were going to be loud but not this loud. Oh well, it doesn't really bother me but I'm sure the people that ride with me will find it annoying.
I had the same problem when I installed CL RC5+ pads. I reinstalled them using some anti-squeal compound between the pad and a Girodisc shim, then some high temp copper grease between the shim and the caliper. I got rid of *nearly all* the really loud noise.

Even though I mentioned using anti-squeal compound, I find Hawk pads to be a bit problematic for noise issues even though they aren't very aggressive at all. I'm not a fan despite having a few of their pads lying around for several different caliper setups.
