Cross-corner weighting -- thoughts?

I just got my car back from having it corner balanced at a local tuning shop and they basically managed to get it cross-corner balanced at 49.3% to 50.7%.

I'm new to corner balancing and would like to find out from the more experienced suspension geeks and vendors here on what is achievable -- 50%/50%?

Currently, the front/rear balance is at 61%/39%. Is that bad, or normal?

I am running Zeal Function X coilovers with 10kg/mm front and 8 kg/mm spring rates, 30-way adjustable damping, and am hoping to get some good advice here, seeing that I have a track day coming up in the first week of June.

So your side weight distribution looks fine to me (was that with your weight in the drivers seat?) The car should have been balanced with you or your weight in the drivers seat.

The front - rear balance seems off to me, but I have to tell you that I have not corner balanced my EVO. That said it looks like a complete opposite of a 911, so maybe it is fine considering the EVO is a front engine. Generally you want to get as close to 50/50 for a neutral / balanced car.

Yes, that's with me in the driver's seat. Basically, I gave them my weight and they used ballast to make up the weight in the seat.

Weights as follows:

FL : 992.1 lbs
FR : 962.3 lbs
RL : 661.4 lbs
RR : 589.7 lbs

Googling for information on the Evo reveals that the car has a 60/40 weight distribution, so I'm guessing that's ok:

Looks good to me too but I would want at least 60/40 Front/Rear distribution.

You can get 50/50 cross weights, it just takes some time and patience. Mine is exactly at 50/50.

Yeah those are pretty close to the numbers im running... the evo is a pig up front and I actually decided to leave my spare tire in for a little weight in the rear for those high speed stints.

50/50 is obtainable but not optimal especially for an evo you definitely want a little more front bias; I would say 55/45.

50/50 weight distribution is not possible with the average daily driven EVO. 50/50 FL/RR & FR/RL is possible. As others have said, it is an arduous task that is possible with patience. For every fraction off of the ideal, you will understeer to the side that is less than 50%. This is more pronounced in a lighter heavily sprung pure track car than a street/track car that carries it's full weight. You are marginally off from the ideal. My suggestion is to track the car and see if you can feel the difference when turning left and right. My guess is no.

*going along with the above post: The driver weight was 165 and the % are as follows: 61.5% front, 38.5% rear, 51% left, 49% right...and it was 3300lbs exactly with me (153bs) in the car, but 165lbs was used as ballast when corner weighing the car.

50/50 cross vehicle is reachable. Mine is 1709/1709 lf/rr cross.

With me in the driver seat, and with the spare tire/jack/floor out, front/rear was 2128 62.26% and 1290 37.74%. After it was all said and done, they suggested leaving the tire/jack/trunk floor cover in to help the weight balance F-R. Total weight was 3418 with 3/4 tank of gas and driver in car.

Setup with KW Var. 3 coilovers, Tien camber plates front/rear.

Also, they found out that the build quality was pretty poor at Mitsu. The car is brand new, less than 2500miles at the time, and I was told that the height from frame to top of fender was 3/8" off from driver to passenger side in the rear, so it was throwing off the weight distribution at first because they were measuring height from scale to fender. Ended up having to go scale to frame and got it perfect.

Thanks, guys. The tuner here has already spent 5 hours @ USD100 per hour to get to where this is today, and the idea of shelling out another USD500 to get that 15 kg difference feels somewhat painful. I could put that money to slightly better use, i.e. PF97 pads, front and rear, or a front and rear swaybar setup

Should I really bother with that last 0.7%? Or as Whoosh suggested, it probably wouldn't be noticed anyway

I just got mine done today.

Here were my numbers...1/2 tank of gas:

TL 3428 (including 175lb driver)

LF 1070 RF 1022
LR 689 RR 649

Cross corner weight ratio (LFRR/RFLR): 1719 / 1711 or 50.1% / 49.9%
Front to rear bias: 61% / 39%

I guess mine came out pretty nicely!
