By plate, do you mean the anti squeal shims? (The silver things that "hook" onto the pins? Or the silver things that sit against the pads?) Did you pump the pedal a few times afterwards? They should all tighten up after the piston pushes against the pad. The top shim will never be "tight," but you shouldn't be able to move it freely by hand either. Have you checked the brake pad how to?
