I personally have the Bridgestone Potenza RE01Rs in that size and love them. There has been a ton written about them on the forum.

You can also read the test reviews for all three tires at www.tirerack.com

I'm curious where you've heard great things about those tires, because they are not great. 245/40 is also smaller than stock height, fwiw.

i think he may be thinking that since he's going 10mm wider its going to rub. warrtalon is got a good point though, you may want to look into some other tires and a more fitting size. ie. up the height to stock, or add another 10mm to the width with the shorter sidewall

I ran the 245/4017 in the RE-01R. Very sticky tire, but the overall diameter of the tire is shorter than stock. This will increase your revs at cruising speed. It was annoying to me, and made the gears a lot shorter.

The RE-01R is now offered in the 235/45R17 (factory size) and I would recommend this tire size and pattern over the other options.

MrMejia, that's twice you've made crazy suggestions today. first, it was an aftermarket throttlebody for a mod path to 300whp, and now you're suggesting R-COMPOUNDS for someone to get as daily drivers? Not only are they r-comps, which means they will last only 5k miles or so, but they are 235/40, which is SMALLER than stock. That's about the worst thing you could suggest.

I'd be surprised if you really noticed a big difference. It's a 15.5mm difference in overall diameter, so roughly 2.5% change. Pretty much the same as going from full tread depth to worn out.

I chose the 245/40 FOR the shorter sidewall and the increased width of course. Should be a little stiffer, and the slightly shorter effective gearing should slightly improve acceleration.

im looking for a good all around summer tire that has great traction but good treadwear and not too soft of a sidewall and im not going to be going to the track anytime soon
if i go with 245/40/17 will it change the gearings and ride by that much?

You'll probably want to look at the Potenza RE050A Pole Positions then instead of the RE01Rs. There's enough info out there for you to determine the tire size you want.

If you have the money the Advan Neova AD07 or the Potenza RE01-Rs are the best summer tires in terms of performance to have in that size. Falken RT-615 are also good but they don't come in that size ...

I currently have the Goodyear F1 GS D3s. I do not plan to buy them again. I was looking for something a little different when I bought these and at the time TireRack had a really good deal on these particular tires so I figured what the heck. The side walls seem pretty soft to me so they are not as responsive as I was hoping for. I go to Gingerman (road coarse) once a year so I do like to push the car a bit now and then. I did not like how they handled at all at the track. My all season Dunlops handled better than the F1s. I don't drag race at all so I can't give you any input there. I drive about 80 miles a day. Over all the tires are pretty quiet which isn't bad. For me however even though I only go to the track once a year, I would like better performance when I do go. My next tires will probably be the Falken 615s or something like that. I will however give the tires two thumbs way up for wet performance (like down pour wet). They definately stay nicely on the road in the heavy rain (if that's a factor for you).
