WR shows 235/45- 17, but has a stud size column...weird.

The hot set up is to bolt on a set of the Evo 4 GSR or Evo 4-8 RS model 2 piston calipers and run either 15 or 16" wheels with a narrower, taller tire. The smaller brakes will obviously give up a bit in the braking department, but on slippery roads you typically can't use all of the capacity of the big Brembo's. I have a set of 16" OZ Racing wheels from an Evo 4 that I am going to mount some 215/55R16 snows on. I feel the Nokian work a bit better than the Blizzaks and definitely last longer. Although Bridgestone recently bought a portion of the Nokian Tire company so it will be interesting to see if they come out with something new for this winter...

Wow Bridgestone bought part of the company? hmm interesting.
Its a pain to keep chainging calipers every other season...so gotta just get tires in the right size.

 

My plan is to make braided steel brake lines with quick disconnect fittings. Should make the conversion rather painless. Like I mentioned, not the cheapest set-up, but should be the best performance wise.

The Ranger had the FX4 Level 2 package so from the factory, it had the Aluminum 15" forged Alcoa rims with BF Goodrich All-Terrain KO 31x10.5 tires same tires that come on the H2. I didn't feel the need to upgrade those as they performed flawelessly in the mud and snow.

 

I might be taking a new job in N. VA and I am not going to be used to changing tires, etc., having lived in SoCal my whole life. My plan was to use the stock wheels for winter tires and some BBS wheels in 18" for the summer. Any VA residents who have a good tire recommendation for the winters? I've heard it's not too bad out there, but that is just what I've heard. Thanks

I like the Dunlop Winter sport M2. I had them on my RX-7 throughout the winter and performed excellent. Good price compared to others.

 

I drove my evo almost all winter long with the stock rubber..it got around pretty well. I think the tires that come with the car are much worse on wet roads than snow..just my personal experience of course. I doubt I'll drive another winter on these tires..but if you live somewhere with "moderate" winters..its really not that bad if you dont want to shell out the huge cash for a set of winter wheels/tires.

I would by the optional wheels from mits.and put some Bridgestones on them,that way you have winter and summer tires

 

I like the Dunlop M2 Snow Sports alot (on my Porsche 944 Turbo S anyways). They make the stock size. Note: the are unidirectional, so can rotate front-rear but not left-right. H-rated for high speed winter driving (many winter tires are not meant for triple digit speeds) and they're great in the snow too.

 

well, six years later, i have a buiddy who is a manager at Discount Tire who drives an 06 IX RS....He set me up with a set of Hancook Winter IPike in 235/45 17's for the stock IX wheels. I live in colorado so he understood that i need a really good set of winter tires. Military pricing was $532.

 

Are they the W409's?

If so, I bought a set new from Discount tire direct for $102 a piece last year. Right now it looks like they are $103 a piece shipped from discount tire direct. Size is 225/45/17.
