My wife's EVO IX SE has about 1500 miles now and pretty much since they day we purchased it the brakes have squeaked from time to time. The car had 75 miles on it when we purchased it. Are they squeaking because:

1. type of brake pad used
2. not bedded correctly
3. not enough "stop squeak" used on the back of the brake pads

I am about to take the car back to the dealership and ask them WTF! There are many other EVOs in my area and I have not heard them experiencing this same problem.

squeeking because they are stock and because they are brembo's. It's normal.

Seeing as how Brembo's come stock on this car, I would say squeaking because they are stock.

SO damn early..
Mine recently started squeaking @ around 11K miles.. never b4 had they done so..!

What is the cause that this happens at different mileage..?

I would think is time for pads at least, but seeing yours squeaks so damn early makes me think otherwise.. besides I check pads, rotors and fluids and all are a GO..

Any idea what type of material is used on the OEM pads? Metallic, semi-metallic or ceramic? Also, I know that there is a type of coating (sometimes referred to as stop squeak) that is applied to the back of the brake pad and the shims. If this product is used on the EVO brakes, maybe it wasn't applied correctly?

You can completely lather the shims (both sides), back and sides of pads, pins, and every other part that can vibrate in the brembos and they are still likely to squeak. Get used to it.. It's normal. When mine are real squeaky (new pads), I intentionally apply light pressure so they will squeak very loudly just for fun and I get a little laugh at every stop.

Really, once they get good and bedded in and heat cycled they settle down and one day they'll just stop squeaking and you'll be like WOW.. they stopped. Then it will rain.. LOL

It is my understanding that the only Brembo piece in the brake system is the caliper itself. The rotors and brake pads appear to be of another manufacturer. Am I wrong here? Are the rotors Brembo blanks?

Would it make any difference if I used Hawk HPS pads?

Actually I think they are all brembo, not real sure about the rotors but the pads are def brembos. Race cars have squeaky brakes - they'll settle down. I'm not a fan of Hawk HPS pads, I'm running Ferrodo pads right now but I think the OEM pads are pretty damned good street pads, IMO better than the HPS pads. They dust alot but they stop just fine for street driving.

I personally think the stock pads feel like crap. They do stop the car, but just not a ton of feel. I have some ferodo 2500s on the car now and they're a little better.

As for the stock pads squeaking.... they might just need a good bedding in. So what I'm saying is, go drive the **** out of them

My brakes squeaked until around 3k-5k miles. After that, the noise went away completely.
