Anyone ever try MT DR's on stock rims?

I've had the exact tire on a 9" rim but have seen them on an 8" rim and it looks fine and i would actually prefer it on a slighty skinnier wheel as we use this mainly for drag racing.
I'm ok w/ needing the coilovers just wondering if anyone else has bothered trying.
I understand the rec for a 9" rim but those tires on a 9.5" rim would look terrible.

I sell tires for a living and have sold numerous sets of MT's to Mustang and Camaro guys so while its not the same tire I can tell you the RA1 is very similar in physical dimension (I also run 275's on the street). In fact the MT is a little taller for the measurements, but thats not my point. On a 9.5" rim it still bulges at the sidewall like so:
In drag racing you actually want a wheel that is wide enough to keep the contact patch as flat as possible with a realistic air pressure. You could put 275's on an 8" wheel (I have done it for a customer) but an inch or so of the tire crowns and doesnt touch the ground till you are down to about 13-14psi. This would work but radials will rotate on the wheel or feel really floaty on the big end. I run 18 in my RA1's when I use them for drag racing and at 120ish they feel rather light.
I wouldnt go less than a 9" wheel, otherwise the traction advantage is being lost.

Thanks again for the info and pics
Let me get this straight though.
The pic is a 9.5" rim w/ a 275/40 tire
If that's the case i'll just pick up a set of rims then for the MT's as i wouldn't mind the slightly taller tire.
What c/o's are you running?
Is there a specific wheel dimension that could get them to fit on the stock susp?

Those rims in that picture are 275/40-17 RA1's on 17x9.5 5Zigen GN+ wheels. During the monsoon season I run 275/35-18 Proxes 4 on 18x9.5's. The wheel specs that I am running the 275/40's are 38mm with an 8mm spacer in the front and a 5mm in the rear. Both ends have ARP's though they arent pictured in those pictures (it was more test fitment at that point).
My 18's are 25mm offset in the front and 35mm with no spacers (same wheel but 2 different offsets) and worked with the stock suspension but it looked wrong to me so I went to coilovers. I run H&R coilovers but for the price and what I do with the car I would go with a less expensive choice for drag racing or street usage. Megan, Tein, D2, etc. will work just fine for drag racing and still give the needed room inside the wheel well. The main thing is getting a 60mm ID spring so that there is MAXIMUM inside room. When I set the car up for circuit settings I need have to run an addtional spacer in the front because I am lazy and havent got camber plates for my car. In the back I am running the AP lower control arms for additional postitive camber as well to keep the launches and 60' times as good as I can.
cliffs- 25mm offset (or adjusted) in the front, 35mm in the rear for a 9.5" wheel. The rear fenders will require some rolling.
