LOwering issue

Hi everybody! I want to lower my EVO IX MR and I want to know what kind of spring will I use to be able to have the same performance and good handling. Plus do I need to have a new suspension and shock too? Or just a good spring will do. Give me some advice please. Thanks!

Put your flame suit on...this question has been asked so many times and most members on here will not be nice when answering it for the 1,000th time.

Anyhow, depends on what you want to do with your car. If all you want to do is "drop" the car, then springs will be fine. Swift seems to be the favorite. They have a nice drop and ride similar to stock. If you want to do more than drop the car, you'll want coilovers. I have BC Racing BR coilovers and love them. I also track my car which is why I went with coilovers. There are plenty of other great options for coilovers...just depends on how much you want to spend.

Let the flaming begin!

You might want to check this thread.

As others have suggested, you might want to determine what you are looking for from your suspension upgrade.
What might be good for a roadracer would not be good for a daily driver.
Personally, I wanted slightly lowered stance without affecting the handling negatively.
I am very happy with my current set up considering the fact that my MR is my DD.
Btw, I am planning on going to coilover route next year when I decide to participate in autox and roadracing.
I will be contacting Robi for his advice and assistance.

I included couple of pics of my car taken by Myles at GTWorx.

Ive been using the HKS Hypermax RS Coilovers for a while now and my car handles well and the ride is very comfortable. It just depends on what you looking for.Personally I like being able to adjust the ride height whenever I want.

lets just put it this way springs are good for drop
tein basics are good for drop and about 100% better then stock suspension and cheap
then you have the high coat coilover over at least 1000 there like 100% better then the basics but dont ride the same as basics but top of the line coilovers are about 200% better then stock if you can spend at least 1200 if you want the basics

i have some for sell for 700 shipped <thumbsup>

i have Works ride springs. i like them alot. .9" drop in front, .8" drop in the rear, and they have defintely helped with autocross and time trials.

they're only a bandaide though, i plan to save up for a very sick set of Ohlin DFV's

Thanks!

Thanks for all your reply...... I dont have any plans of dragging or racing my EVO, I'm just driving it on the road and street when I'm going to work. Do you think spring would be fine on DD? Or still I need a good coilover?

Nice EVO! So you used only spring on this one? How many inches you lowered it front and back?

jamsky, only suspension mods I've done to my car so far are GTWorx springs and Perrin 25mm rear swaybar.
As i have stated, I am very happy with my current set up as a daily driver.
I was relatively happy with the stock mr suspension other than the stance and somewhat excessive sway/roll.
I feel this set up provided me with what I was looking for: slight lowered ride height, minor degradation in ride, and improvement in sway/roll.
I did not actually measure the drop.
But as far as I know, they are 20mm front and 15mm rear.
If you are looking for even lowered stance, many members seemed very happy with swift springs.
I think they lower the car 1.3 inch front and .9 inch rear.

Did you replace your suspension and shock absorber? I like your front bumber and side body kit, where you buy those?

GTWorx springs are designed to work with stock struts.
I hate to be the search police but you might wanna read up on the thread I provided.
I know it is a lengthy one but all the info you are looking for is in the thread.
As far as body mods are concerned, I have APR CF lip, Rexpeed 9 canards, Rexpeed side spats, monstersport cf hood, and JDM rear bumper.
