Brake pad sqeek...

Ok i changed all my pad's with hawk Hps pad's my front ones were not that bad but i went ahead and changed them since i took the calipers off. well last night they did fine, but after driving this morning when im coastin to a stop they sqeek very loud. I checked the old pads to make sure i took all the metal brakets off and i did so i dont have an idea why they are making the noise with brand new pads.

Did you use disc brake quiet on the back of the pads? If not this is your problem. Disc brake quiet must be used when doing a brake job

Yeah you must thorougly grease everything with that stuff. Make sure you do the sliders and the metal shims. I used that green stuff that is made by the same company as anti-seize (cant think of the name right now, maybe Permatex?) and my HPS dont make a sound. You can get it at any auto parts store.

You'll want grease for the sliders but dont put the grease on the back of the pads. Disc Brake Quiet is sticky and basically doesnt let the pad move around. Im usually pretty generous with it.

HP+ are not quite dedicated track pads - but are about as close as you can get.

The noise will be a constant pain - the bite is fairly worth it though.

The Ferodo's have almost the bite of HP+ and generally a bit less noise - but they cost more.

The OP said HPS NOT HP+!

HPS: more street oriented pads
HP+: More agressive pads, semi-track street pad. Good for AutoX and hardcore street, but not quite up to hardcore road racing duty.

I have had both, both squeak for me. I used a pretty good amount of copper anti-seize on the HPS and they still squeak when it's cold, very dusty, are being used hard, and who knows whenever else they feel like it.
But it's not that loud, they still work well, and it's not all the time, so who cares?

i know

I was replying to the poster who said HP+ were track only - which is not the case.

As you have noticed - they are tough to bear on the street unless you know you will use what they do have.

My post wasn't directed at you, but also at the other three posts mentioning HP+.
I was just trying to explain that if you get HP+ you should not expect them to be 100% silent all the time, which is why it's a moot point in this discussion.

Just like every other part of your car, if you get a high performance car and upgrade things on it to aftermarket, expect the possibility of it becoming louder!

FWIW, my stock pads were squeaking, and I though it was time to replace them. I replaced them with HPS, and realized that there was still a good amount of pad left on the stock ones, they were just squeaking because the anti-seize, if any was used (I didn't install) was cooked/dried up/full of dirt, or whatever. So it not just necessarily the pads themselves as many people think.

BTW, I got my HPS from you, plug for a great brake seller!
