^ True. I definitely didn't mean anything negative there. Getting KW's with custom rates does bring the price gap a little closer between the two.


I think KW used Koni's when they first started, but began making their own stuff shortly thereafter. KW's include a camber bolt too with which you can get a good amount of camber on stock tops.

Ok. Question I'm still learning so don't laugh, what are bump stops. ( i may have an idea but im not 100%) thanx in advance !

It's a piece of rubber or polyurethane on the rod of the shock will keep the shock from bottoming out when fully compressed.








When you fly over a pothole at 45mph and the shocks fully compress suddenly, the bumpstops will help cushion the impact.

And it's important to understand how the car reacts when it hits the bump stops, or how close the car is to the bumpstops.

A stock front strut has only so much travel. So with a spring that lowers the car 2 inches into this already limited travel, has a soft spring rate (212 lbs/in), and 900 lbs on the corner sitting on it, you're likely sitting on OR already well into the bumpstop just at rest.

And these bumpstops have their own spring rate, and it's usually crappy. So no travel to soak up bumps, super high spring rates from the bumpstops, inability to brake and turn at the same time.....it's not gonna be fun. Travel is good to have.

With the Swifts and KYBs - recommended to cut the bump stops down some?

Which would be a better choice for a non daily, time attack modified class setup?

Ohlins Flag Series 2 Way Coilover (maybe with Swift Springs & custom valve)

KW V3 (custom valve)

other....

As much as I love KW's, Ohlins Flags would be my choice there.

OMG, are those DMS 40s?! I'm gonna cry. Please tell me that you rebuilt them and found them a good home. If not let me know and I'll rescue/adopt them!

Some have protective coatings and don't have any issues. KW's are especially known for their stainless steel construction and are tested in a salt spray blast for like 250 hours without any effects. Ohlins have a decent coating as well.

Maintenence is really just cleaning the threads off and keeping everything nice and clean. This is more important on coilovers that are more susceptible to corrosion.

Also, coilovers usually require rebuilds anywhere from 1 to 3 years. Struts wear out after around 3, all this depending on usage.

These were for a GC Subaru.....they did actually perform fairly well. Just looked like poo and couldn't be adjusted. The dude who had them took them with him after we put our own Subaru coilovers RCE Tarmac II (made by KW).

For a modified class TT car....Motons would be nice, but you sure do pay for it. The Ohlins will get you 99.9% of the way there, be easier to set-up and be much cheaper.

KW Competition's are a nice upgrade over regular V3's but KW stresses that these should only be used on the track. No street....these are truly "competition" coilovers......according to KW at least. I might still rate the Ohlins over them regardless.


I would do Ohlins Flags.....looking at what most other people run on their TT cars, you would have a pretty good edge.

GTWorx,

I am currently on Tein S Techs on the stock shock/strut and my car is very horrible riding, im guessing the struts are dead. I have 37K on them and probably 25K on the springs. My question is what can I replace them with to have the best quality ride? I was thinking stock MR suspension? I am local to you as well Fort Meade. I will have to come check out the shop. Thanks

If you find a used set of MR Bilsteins in good conditions for cheap go for it.

Bilstein HD struts are great and not much more then used MR Bilsteins (i think). I'll send you a PM.

Dump the s-techs and go with stock, Swift, or our own GTWorx springs.
