Alignment Issues
Alignment Issues
i did a quick search for alignment, but didnt see anything mentioning this problem. i purchased my 06 IX in march of 07 and did the first oil change at 1k miles (sometime in may) at the dealership.
the next oil change i did myself, but took went back to the dealership for a tire rotation. at that time, they informed me that the alignment was off and showed me how the front tires had worn on the inside tracks. this was with 6,400 miles on the odometer in august. no charge for the alignment, life is good.
in october i get a nail in one of the tires and take it to the local shop next to my work place and have them repair the tire. they inform me that the alignment is off and needs to be corrected. i told them about the alignment i had at the dealership less than 2 months earlier and the tire wear they were seeing was likely due to the previous mis-alignment. i told them i wanted to drive for a couple thousand miles longer before taking further action. this was with 9,600 miles on the odometer.
today i take the car into the local shop for an oil change and tire rotation. when they begin rotating the tires, they call me and tell me again that the alignment needs to be done, so i approve the work. when i go to pick up the car, they tell me there is no charge for the alignment because they could not adjust the camber to within their tolerances. further, they indicate that the dealership should have told me about this when they performed their alignment, as this condition is not typical for a car with only 11,000 miles on it.
has anyone else experienced this? i have not jumped the car off a ramp or driven through a mine field, or any other extraordinary driving situations which would cause the alignment to shift in a few thousand miles. this appears to be the result of pre-existing condition before i purchased the car, and i have an appointment to take it into the dealership next week for them to take a look. what should my next steps be for resolving this? is this just the nature of an evo? any help or suggestions would be appreciated!

When I had my IX I had the same problem, they never told me of this but I was told by them it is a common problem with Evos after it happened to me
Then they told me that it isn't covered for them to do an alignment under my warranty and it would cost 98 bucks. After screaming at them for about 15 minutes i said F it and said here is the money now align it. So they went in the back and i waited for about another 10 minutes when he came back and said that they now couldn't do the alignment because of the front tires being so worn. Well I argued with them for another 15 to 20 minutes about this that an alignment is done to the rims of the car not the tires and they were full of it. So they then said if I wanted them to do an alignment anyways but they couldn't guarantee the alignment cause the tires
Sooo then again he went in the back for a half hour this time and then came back to me to say the guy doing the alignment doesn't feel comfortable doing it cause the god darn tires again so I said F it again and left went home switched the tires front to back and drove until the tires were all worn out. Then got new tires and ended up crashing the ******* thing when drivin home from Florida where i was on vacation and after 18 hours of driving I fell asleep and totalled my car so now I no longer have to worry about it.
So sorry for rambling on

The 9's come with a negative camber from the factory to make turn in sharp and quick, this is NOT a misallignment issue. The stock advans being very soft (tread wear rating of 180) makes the Advans wear out very quickly. You should have your front camber at about -1.5 and -1 for the rears. Certain tire brand wear quicker than others hence the poor wear for the Advans, I now have Falken Azenzis rt615 and they are wearing much much better, I switched after 2 sets of the Advans, and will never go back to them for a street tire, I can't afford new tires every 10,000 miles. Also the caster is exagerated also on the Evo which will compund the quick wear rate of tires, but both camber/caster will help in quick turn-in.....maybe someone with more Expert Allignment experience can chime in to help ya out. I just generalize in my knowledge.....
A word from the wise.....the cars are tied down when they are shipped/trucked and they tend to strap them down well...this tends to pull them out of alignment....I had a Nissan with the same issue from the factory...namley needing an alignment when it was brand new..So thats likely what caused your problem...Now, the alignment-... would need to see some numbers...the inside of the tires wearing is likley a toe issue...have them set toe to 0 as in the specs and you will likely be fine...camber unless its way out doesn't play a roll as you would think..wont go into the details have posted about this in the past...trust me.. Toe causes 90% of the tire wear probs, think about it...thats why you can have a large range of camber settings from + to - and still be "in" alignment but toe is a very , very small range and will wear tires faster or slower depending on where you land in that range...
thanks for the input from everyone.
meckert - the following is a list of the final measurements from today's alignment measurement printout:
front axle
camber: left (-1d31'); right (-0d20')
cross camber: (-1d10')
individual toe: left (0d0'); right (0d0')
total toe: (0d0')
rear axle
camber: left (-0d48'); right (-1d11')
cross camber: (0d23')
individual toe: left (0d8'); right (0d7')
total toe: (0d15')
not sure if this helps shed light on the issue. im just getting tired of being told i need an alignment every time i take the car in, and no one has been able to fix the problem yet.

sure you're right
-1^^
There's a ton of threads about alignment take a look at them. The front camber bolts have 2 positions arrow in and arrow out. Take the car to a shop that knows what they're doing.
