proper way to mount tires..

here are some pics of our hunter machines, dismounting our Bridgestone RE01R street tires, and mounting our time attack (for testing) tires...

cheers

starting to dismount..

with tire removed, using some paste..

R888 going on

using a small ratchet strap to help pull the tire towards the arm, it was being trapped in the drop center..

Roadforce balanced, 1 lbs of roadforce... pretty impressive for a wide soft tire...

Those are a couple of nice machines. Our detail/accessory center has those....i've been itching to get my summer wheel/tire set re balance and put on that road force machine.

The Road Force Balancer is nice, the tire mounter...not soo much. I say this cause, well, I did that for almost 3 yrs at my last job, and the machines that don't have a flat plate bottom that allowed you to grab from the inside were a PITA to work with. I could do 3 tires in the time it took an EXPERIENCED (10yrs+) guy to do 1 on the newer machine like yours. We ended up selling the newer one and buying 2 more old ones, so that all our people would have their own machine. Bead-rollers are fancy options, but I could do it with the pry-stick in the same amount of time it took to put the roller in place.

lol,

in our opinion, doing this every day on very expensive wheels, this is the best option...

and we demo'd lots of equipment. We have NEVER damaged a single wheel, and we dont care how quick a machine does something, we care how well it does..

also, this is the preferred machine for Reverse drop center wheels, when we have to grab the wheel upside down.

our failure/damage rate is 0... and we do warranty troubleshooting for our local VW dealer and do work for National Tire and Battery.

to each his own.

I can agree with that after rotating my wheels and seeing how bad one of the other ones marred 2 of my rims

No hunter with the 2nd arm? It's a huge help with mounting larger tires. We still have a coast 50 50 at the shop :T

I worked at a wheel repair place, Wheels America, and I would scratch MAYBE 1 wheel a month, doing 20-30+ a day. Our main issue was the tires tearing trying to install a 30 sidewall on a 24in wheel. You'd be amazed how many people bend those driving around...if it's moved over 10 miles, it's got a bent one, almost guaranteed.

...and when doing reverse mount wheels, you wrap tape around the grabbers. And retape it every wheel. I NEVER scratched a reverse mount.

I'm in the same boat ... carelessness in mounting scarred all 4 of my SE BBSs pretty bad. I'm having to get them refinished ...

I'm glad to see that CBRD takes care in mounting/balancing ... especially since they deal with some quite pricey wheel setups.

interesting,

we have yet to damage anything (knock on wood, tomorrow ill probably fire an HRE accross the shop LOL)..

we have rubber headed adapters for each setup, special tapered adapters etc..

we've done magnesium ferrari challenge wheels, and no issues... when the owners are concerned we will let them watch us mount...

cheers

I can vouch for CBRD's meticulous work on everything they do. I've watch Chad mount several tires on some EXPENSIVE rims, the man's a surgeon.
