Need help choosing coilovers for the track

I need help choosing coilovers to buy for my E9.

I'm going to run mostly track and sprints with R-tyres.

Which coilovers are the hottest for the moment?

Cusco? KW? Bilstein? HKS? JIC? Others??

Which spring rate is to recomment? 10k front, 8k rear or harder?

Price between 1000-2000£

thanks..

Spring rates vary depending on the valving of certain coilovers.
If you will be running slicks then you definitely want to look towards a very firm setup. If you are going to be running on street / R-compound tires, you don't want the setup to be extremely stiff.

I have personally owned HKS Hipermax and Megan Racing coilovers, and I do not recommend Megan Racing to anyone I know. HKS are good, but too expensive, and didn't like the rebound on Hipermax - but definitely a nice set (after one year of use, my spring perches were seized - rust, and took me forever to break them loose. The camber plate/bolts and lower bracket started to rust as well).
I'm currently on STANCE coilovers with the inverted monotube design. Love it. Very forgiving for daily driving, and stiff enough for track use. They have a special set catered to racing tires, thru racing developement, its 14k/12k spring rates with a specially built shocks for race use.
DTM Motorworks has the N.A.S.A National Champion (TTR Record holder) with their EVO running on STANCE coilovers.

ZZYZX has a very nice setup. With the weak dollar you can pick it up for cheap. Robi also does a nice job with the KWs I hear.

For more than you ever really wanted to know about coilovers for the Evo, read this thread:

Lots of good info in there.

+1000, the zzyzx em sports are the new best bang for the buck coilover IMO, you'll be able to run a wide range of your spring rate of choice.

andber-

If you are in Sweden there is no choice but AST or Ohlins. You'd have great local support directly from the factory. I am running Ohlins Flags on my car this year but AST's are also very good. You asked for pricing in British pounds so your pricing will be different. You can get the Ohlins Flags from www.gtworx.com for sure. I think that they can also get you the AST coilovers too. I know that www.ast-usa.com (Vorschlag Motorsports) is the US Distriutor so you may check with them as well.

I'm probably stepping on some toes here...

The answer is that Cusco (and most of the low-dollar Asian maufacturers) makes crappy dampers. They're poorly engineered, they don't give you much travel, the quality control sucks, and the high speed valving is all wrong. They'll rattle your teeth out on the street and they're not as fast on the track.

For around 2k - 3k, I like the ZZYZX EM Sports and the Ohlins DFV. The KW's are on the bubble. If you want to go cheaper than that I would say put a set of springs on there. Don't bother with low-end coilovers.

I've said this before, but: You can have the best suspension in the world, and if it's not set up right it's not worth much. On the other hand, if you put crappy shocks under the car, it'll still be a crappy suspension even if it's set up perfectly. Springs are cheap. Dampers are expensive. Get good ones.

Cusco uses Showa dampers, and they're not that bad. Quality control wise they're pretty good, the valving could be a little better, and yes, very short travel. IMO they are the best from Japan, but still a long way to go compared to similarly priced European dampers.

Also, they aren't rebuildable in the US, so you're kinda screwed.
