In a high durability enamel will work, duplicolor wheel paint is good too. Powder coating is very good but ANY kind of painting, including powder coating, needs to be done correctly or it will either look bad, chip later, or weaken the spokes (myth). Always do it in a controlled temperature environment 65-75 degrees. Make sure you put the right amount of clear (depending on how many coats you put on) so it won't chip or scratch easily. You dont knwo how many ppl I seen paint their wheels inproperly and not to mention they dont even put any clear coat! And they wonder why the next day they have fat paint chips on the lip. Do ti right the first time!

I decided to paint my wheels vs powdercoating because if your powdercoating chips you can't really fix it... but if your paint chips its easy to fix.

I used the Duplicolor wheel paint and it turned out pretty good.

From: somewhere testing various tires, brakes, and suspensions.
Powercoating also could change the molecular structure of the metal in the rims (make it brittle).

Just take them over to a good shop and have them prof. painted with base and clear.

The temperatures used in standard powdercoating (not high temp) will not do anything to the structure of the wheel. Wheels actually get close to those temps under track conditions anyway. However painting works just as well, is less expensive, & can be done by yourself. Many factory wheels are painted so durability is not really a problem. As stated the most important thing is to prep the wheels correctly & sand them completely so the paint will stick.

If you have access to a sand or bead blaster do that. If not just use some gritty steel wool and you will be fine.

Painted wheels are going to chip regardless, but a good prep job will help a lot.

Also, mud flap and painted wheels is a big non-no, i learned the hard way.
