I know I'm chiming in on this one a little late, but there's no such thing as "street" coilovers. Coilovers are made for competition. Either they're engineered correctly and therefore expensive, or they're crap made to sell to people who don't know any better. The Evo will out-handle nearly any other car on the street. If you don't have a "hole" lot of money to spend, don't. Your stock suspension works just fine.

There is Megan are cheap and some say they are good some say they are bad. i would go with KW / RobiSPEC they are good coilovers but not sure if they are in ur price range. But if u just drive the evo on the street stay stock save the money.

So far, the Megan "street" coilovers (with 550# GC rear springs substituted for the supplied 6 kg/mm or 335.2# rear springs) have been pretty impressive, especially for the price I paid ($600 shipped, brand new on eBay).
I've used them for autox and a track day:

- so I'm not just talking about "mountain driving" or whatever.
That being said, ALIGNMENT will get you a lot of handling improvement for way under $100. Get your rear toe setting to dead straight or maybe even 1/16" toed out per side, and the car will start to dance.
LOL!! That's funny!! GTLocke argues no such thing as street coilover.. you disagree, than say you use them for autox and track day.. classic..
I'm with GTLocke.. save your money and get a RSB, rear trailing arm bushings and an agressive alignment.. that's more than enough improvement for the street.. Why do people need the car to "rotate" better, or "tune" the suspension for the street??
and if you want it to look better, get lowering springs.. if you want more grip, buy better tires...

I used the term "street" in my post to describe the Megan coilovers that I have, because that's what the manufacturer calls them:

Wow. Oversimplification 101.
Hey EG... didn't mean to imply i was attacking you personally.. I agree with everything you said... I just spent $2k on coilovers and enjoy playing with the settings. I dd and track my car too. But at no time did I ever think i was buying them for street driving, quite the opposite.. They're sole purpose is for faster lap times at track.. thats it... and at the expense of a number of negative compromises for the street. Hence the idea of "street coilovers" is like an oxymoron to me. But hey, this thread is way old and the OP will probebly never look at it anyway...

its pretty funny that people think a "good" street coilover is just a outrageously crappy bottom of the barrel product.
spring rates and rebound will affect how it rides not, price/quality (directly that is.)
you can buy any coilover and change the springs, re valve it or adjust its dampening level. to yield a vast sum of different characteristics.
but if your goal is to get something cheap because you yourself do not think that you will notice a difference and/or want to slam your car on its *****. lower than the 2 inches springs will give you then spend 2k on a entry level set of ohlins.
