Tein Suspensions
Tein Suspensions
i heard tein Suspensions is pettery good in Japan. The Question is, is it good for the Lancer Evo. what kind of Suspensions setup is good for the Lan Evo ? and what do you guy use in your cars?
its pretty subjective. Tein built their whole label with suspension products. i ran Apexi N1s in my Evo VI and it was fairly impressive, but as i said, its pretty subjective coz they all have different personalities based on how they we're R&Ded. the problem with Tein is that i've had a hard time looking for their full product line here in the states, coz they have like twenty different suspension lines which range from springs to full with pillows, and can get quite pricey and not alot of resellers here carry enough of the line for you to have the luxury of choosing the best set up for your need and taste, thats my take, hope it was helpful
end of the day i'm sticking with Apexi N1s, but hopefully i'll be able to find those Apexi Tis that i heard rumors bout. hehe

I run Tein suspension on my TME and I like it a lot. Don't know how it compares to the stock suspension as I got my car 2nd hand and it came with it. It is nice and I don't feel I have to change anything.
On a WRX (1995), change from stock to Tein's made a big difference

I would really like Ohlins or DMS too. Unfortunately the price doesn't justify the benefits. They guys who tune my car stock Ohlins and they told me it costs approx. US$7000 (complete set including springs). Whereas the Teins I have cost around US$ 1200. I cannot imagine that the Ohlins are 5-6 times better, and even if they were, I'm not sure that I could really make use of them. However, I must say that I have not driven a car with Ohlins so all this is just speculation on my part

If you plan to drive the car on the street and want a little more then go for the Tein NA. The HA would be nice, but you won't really find a use for the adjustable sleeve... the only real purpose for that is to cornerweight the vehicle and that wouldn't be too useful on a street car. If you plan to track the car a decent amount, I would go with DMS. It'll cost around $2000, but they have offices in the US so rebuilds, and qualified help will be much easier to get.

The Tein lineup is pretty much unsurpassed in the US as far as coilovers go....tremendous bang for the buck so-to-speak.
As far as what is best for you, it depends on your ultimate goals with the car, budget, and where you drive the car.
The HA is a very flexible coilover that is great for street/autocross and somr track days as it can eb had with or without pillow ball mounts, has 16 way adjsutability for dampening, and is a great value. However, these are in short supply, as it is being phased out to be replaced by the Type SS.
The top line coilover for the Evo 4-6 guys is definately the RA. This feautures adjustable perches, as well as a threaded shock body, meaning that ride height can be adjusted without affecting the stroke (i.e suspension travel) of the shock itself, as well as minimizing preload on the springs. In addition, it features seperate adjustments for compression and rebound, has larger pistons than the other models, and like all Tein's , can be ordered with special spring rates to suit your driving conditions, and of course has front and rear pillow ball mounts
For you Evo 7 guys, with a primarly street driven car, the Type Flex is defiantely your setup. Modest spring rates, 16 way adjustment, adjustable perches AND threaded chock body, and pillowball mounts included. Plus, this unit is configured to accept the new EDFC electronic controller, which allows the user to adjsut the dampening of the shocks front to back from inside the cabin, using a turbo-timer sized (1/4 DIN) electronic controller.
Since I am a bit new to the forums here and not yet a registered vendor (waiting for Mark to get back to me with what we need!), any questions, post here and I'll answer, or you can email us at z1auto@aol.com 9we are an authorized TEIN dealer here in the US). For price quotes, please email me, as I don't know if the moderators here allow sales talks in these forums.

ooooooh. tanks. got all that answered there.
ooookayy den.
Why do we have a sponsor (Z-1 Performance) on the Lancer forums page that doesn't carry anything for a Lancer?
There web page has nothing for the EVO. Its all Subaru

As Mark mentioned, we are currently putting the final touches on our Lancer section, and it should be ready to go within a matter of days. If you look in the Evo General and Tech sections, you'll see a thread I started introducing our firm as well as listing some of the brands we carry for the Evo's.
As for GVR4's, I am also an owner of a fairly modded one, thogh not quite as quick as yours
