help brakes grinding!

ok i just got my snow tires put on and now my brakes are grinding i have 11,500miles on my ix, it sounds like front and back are grinding i tried looking at the pads without taking the rim off and it looks like i have a lot brake life left!?? i'm thinking something got in between the pads and rotors but on all for brakes?? the only other thing i can think of is when they put the wheels on with the power socket they tightened it to much and bent the heat shields?? what do you guys think might be happening?

I'd lift the wheels off the ground, one by one, using a floor jack, and spin each wheel separately by hand to ID the cuplrit (neutral; brake off), then pull that wheel and try to find the problem; check the shield and pads. If that failed I'd pull the pads on that brake and clean the rotor and pads with a blast of air and a paper towel, and reassemble it and keep trying until it goes away.

Take it back to "they" and let "they" fix it.

The only other thing I can think of is... Did you put just new tires on or a totally different wheel? If its different wheels are you sure they are clearing the calipers completely? Or what ^^ they said check the sheilds for rubbing. Even with the wheels off its pretty damn hard to get something to squeeze between the caliper to cause that much noise.

sounds to me like when you/they took off the wheels to change the tires, the wheel must have hit the heat shield causing a it to contact the rotors. take off the wheels and get a flat head screw driver and pry the heat shields away from the rotors. this typically happens when you pull off the wheels and just let it drop without pulling the wheel completely away from the hub and putting the wheel on the ground.

good luck..

impossible. the heat shields are mounted behind the hub separtely on the spindle. over-tightening results in broken studs or warps rotors after a long time.

The heat shield/dust shield is the piece of steel with various bends behind the rotors. Look directly behind the rotors. You'll see it. Just google "brake shield" and look for images. You'll find images of what I am talking about.

you said you still had plenty of brake pads left, so I wouldn't worry about it. oh just because they are smooth does not necessarily means your pads are fine. it could be the inner pad is bad, just because the outside looks fine, doesn' mean the inside is fine. ALWAYS check the inner and outer brake pads.
