the basics for a nice street setup
Ive been on a mission to make my car into a perfect all around evo. The power setup will be done within the next week. Next up will be the suspension. Aside from coilovers, what other the basics for a nicely setup suspension. thanks
Sway bars. Best bet would be to go with a package from RobiSpec or Works.
If you just want a nice street set up that may be occasionally tracked go with a nice set of coilovers (JIC, HKS, Bilstein, etc.) and a set of Swift sway bars and some new bushings. Than have the set up properly dialed in and corner balanced.

If you haven't already, get a good set of summer tires. People often overlook this because tires are not as "sexy" as coilovers or swaybars. Yet arguably tires can make the most difference in all around performance.
I currently run the Bridgestone RE-01R, combined with an alignment of -2.0 camber front, -1.5 camber rear, a smidge toe out in front, and zero toe out back. Everything else is stock. I'm extremely satisfied with the way the car handles.

Word on the street is that a properly set up EVO with good springs and tires is as good as most mid range coil over setups. You may miss out on the corner balancing part but I haven't really detected any noticeable gains from than anyway. The difference with a passenger, full tank, empty tank, or simply tire pressure makes a bigger difference.
I going back to basics with my set up..... Picked up a low mileage set of Bilstein struts, some RobiSpec springs, a 25mm rear sway bar, and roll center kit. This combined with a good set of tires should provide me with an excellent streetable EVO that can perform at that track as well.
That being said I never had any problem with the Megan Racing Coil Overs. I tried both kinds and thought the streets were darn near perfect. Then I purchased the Tracks and thought they were too stiff.... UNTIL .... I swapped the springs around. I'm currently running 10k front 12k rear and its much more tolerable.
I'm a weekend warrior and figured I would give springs a college try. If they don't work as well as my coil over set up did I'll go back to coil overs.

I've been in alot of EVOs with alot of different suspensions. The Megan streets are the best riding coil over I've had the pleasure of experiencing.
I'm only going back to Bilsteins because they are softer than the stock KYB or MR Streets. For very long road trips I can sacrifice some performance for peacefulness.

+1... include a 25mm rear sway (and a proper alignment). Just this and you've got a GREAT streat setup that will actually take out most FAST cars (BMW's, Porsches, Corvettes) at a track. I speak from experience. I'll say that so far my new JIC's make the car MUCH more tail happy, which is fun to play with. But for street driving only, springs/sway/tires are all that is necessray.

How would a set up bilsteins with robispec springs compare to the lower end coilovers (megan, etc..). if i were to get coilovers i dont plan to spend over 1k. im leaning towards getting a set of low mile bilsteins, putting some robispec springs on them and front and rear sway bars. will this setup be good for a street car that has never, and may never see the road course?
I've said it before and i'll say it again.....coilovers on a car that will never see the track = overkill. Maybe a lot of fun, but not exactly necessary. Good springs + good dampers + front and rear sways will be awesome on the street and still awesome on the track.
